Do you need insurance on your bike for the M1 Exit Test?

The M1x at the ministry has an on road portion? Didn't have that at the course...almost seems like with all the 'what if's ', it might be better for the op to drop some $$ and just do the course. $75 for test ~$75 for sticker, you're halfway there.

Agree if you dont want to plate your bike best to take the course.

I've no idea. I did the m1x at the Barrie Drivetest center.

Interesting.... Does m1exit course requires the waiver ?

I don't recall exactly, but I believe that there was one.

So technically saying operating a motorized vehicle on a private property ,that's not yours, requires insurance is wrong?

They watch you go around the block from a stationary standing position...that's about it.

Why not insure the bike? If the plan is to get your M2 and start riding, you'll need insurance anyways.

Lightbulb!!!!

I was thinking the same... if you are unable to afford to insure the bike for your test, how are you going to afford insurance, fuel, maintenance, gear, mods, speeding tickets, repairs for damage If you go down, once you are licensed... Owning/operating a motorcycle is an expensive proposition...

My sarcasm has been sustained...But yes of course you would need insurance as you will be driving on public roads and tested for being a responsible M2 rider...insurance is a MUST if you are using your own vehicle!

Interesting.... So what about the track? Why don't we need insurance there?

Insurance for participants at the track is provided by the organizer, sanctioning body, or by the track, and often by all. If you screw up at a track event and injure someone else, participant or just ordinary spectator, the event insurance provides basic coverage for their loss. As mentioned by another, the injured party or parties can still sue you for more, but the basic coverage is there.

Why such info about the insurance was never given by the track operator? I guess i can ask them for details.

Sorry OP for the off topic. I hope you figured what to do

If the issue is about rates, when I had my M1 and bought my CBR250RA, I had it insured with TD MM before my course at M2 rates (since they knew I was taking the M2 in a month or so). I actually asked them does anything happen with my rates once I have my M2 and they said no...if I failed to get a M2 they'd cancel me, but they essentially give you a 'grace' period to get your M2, because you only have 90 days, and insurance typically works on an annual basis/cycle.

I tried that as well. With a 650cc bike that I own, and me being 19, TD quoted me at $6000+ a year. I laughed out loud when they told me that. Not to mention the season is almost over.

Damn it. Wish I had the money but ~$400 is something I cannot afford at this point. I was hoping to just get the licence and that's it. Was not even planning on riding the rest of the season.

Was not planning on riding this year. In fact, I am attempting to sell the bike right now. Can't get insurance at my age so gonna get out of biking for a few seasons.

Thanks, appreciate it. I was actually not aware that the test consisted on road riding even if it was just around the block. Oh well... Gotta figure something out.

Well if your going to sell the bike and not ride for a "few seasons" then don't worry about getting the licence. Wait until you can afford the course take it, (even if it is at the beginning of next season). A few months of not having that licence isn't going to matter at all. Then take the course get your M2 then you have up to 5 years to get your M and buy a small CC bike.

During those 5 years you can spend a bit each season to get proper gear so they when it comes time all you will need to budget for is insurance and the bike cost.

Insurance Co's are very unfair to young/new riders in recent years... It was much easier on the wallet when I got my Class M many'a moon ago...
