Which oil would you recommend for 2010 R1?

Just looking for suggestions...
I was using Amsoil Syn. 10w40 on my 06 636 for about 5 years and that has since been sold..

I am looking to hear if anyone would suggest anything different...!?

Currently sitting with 16,000KM on the bike.

Oil level and colour still look good through the glass so not planning to change anytime soon..

Let's hear the suggestions and give reasons as to why you suggest the brand.

BTW, If you suggest an oil please also mention where it can be purchased from if I do decide to use something different.

Thanks.

You change the oil based on level and colour?

Not all of us are fully qualified for the Taste and Smell tests. He'll learn soon enough.

You've had good luck with Amsoil MCF in the past....why change it? I'm a big fan of MCF.....one of the best syns out there.

Many people on forums suggest different brands and was trying to find someone in the R1 scene with an opinion of what they use or do not use and the reasoning behind it all...

I have heard mixed rumours about other Syn.'s and am now hearing from some individuals that they are using Rotella T - Shell which is a 15w40 and printed on the label for Diesel vehicles but nobody is really saying anything bad about it from the sites I have come across online and with comparison to Mobil 1

Some comparisons of the Rotella T and Mobil 1 have said they are almost on par and feel identical but I see that as subconscious and not a true test.. big price difference per. Litre for certain though but thats not my issue.. I just wanna baby the engine.

Full synthetic Yamalube isn't any more expensive than the other brands.... and it's what's is in your owners manual. Choice of 15W30 and 15W50.

If price isn't an issue go amsoil. Not everyone will agree . I use Rotella for track and street no problems but I don't keep bikes for long.

Use peanut oil. It's abundant and you obviously wouldn't know the difference.

I alternated between Castrol from crappy tire and Motul if I got it cheap on all the R1s I ever had on the street. For some weird religious reason, I only use Motul on the track.

There are only 2 rules you need to follow with oil and motorcycles.

1. Change it regularly at the prescribed intervals
2. Use motorcycle specific oil designed for wet clutches of the correct weight specified by the manufacturer (never use an automotive oil) What make/brand/dyno oil or synthetic is up to you. The important part is changing it regularly. For the most part one manufacturers oil is as good as another's. Kinda like Coke and Pepsi

Do not use Coke or Pepsi.

Dr. Pepper?

As stated, change at recomended intervals or sooner. I've always used dino oil and changed as required.

Another question with some relation to the Oil discussion I created...

I have a BNIB HF 204 filter which I still have after selling my '06 636 and was sourcing to see if I can use it on my 2010 R1 and I am not seeing anything stating its not possible.. Anyone else know if this can be used or should I just get a new filter and give this to my neighbour who still has his '06 636?

With every oil change I do I always like to have an extra on hand ready for install for the next interval so if I can use it I will just continue purchasing the HF 204's or if suggestions are made to switch to something else I will take it into consideration.

Thanks guys.
