NEW bike days

Hello Frozen GTA. Sorry you had such a miserable last few months this winter while we have had one of the mildest winters.
(I am from TO so know how it is)

Riding season this year never ended. I had a Honda NC750S and Yamaha BWS125 that i have changed this year.

First up is i went with a new 2015 Yamaha S-Max scooter that i got on Feb13. Fantastic bike. Build quality is phenomenal. The Yamaha engineers did a great job
with this bike. Made maintenance a breeze. Bike rides more like a sport bike and is fast for a 155cc bike. i have had it on the hwy doing an indicated
120kph with no problem.

Sold my NC750S and thought i would go with a Yamaha R3 or Ninja 300. Evaluated my riding style last year and decided to downsize. But on Saturday decided
to stay with Honda and got a new 2015 Honda CBR500RA. They did not have a 2015 in stock yet so no pix of actual bike so i will include a file photo.

first is on day one on the Smax

HI,
why the 2 bikes?

The two bikes are very good commuters. I don't see the point in twice the insurance.

What are your thoughts on the downsizing decision?

The current norm in bikes is keep buying a bigger bike until you crash.

Hey cool, It actually crossed my mind to down size as well. Was thinking of going yamaha r3 or ktm rc 390.

Where were you for a mild winter? Or did are you still in TO and braved the winter? either way lucky you. Id opt for a 500x personally.

According to his profile location, he's in Vancouver.

For me, this was the year that I've decided to make it a priority to move to BC and what broke the camels back was when I checked the temperature difference on a given day in February, BC +9, Ontario -35....

back in my day a 350cc was a normal size and a 750 was a monster. My first bike was a 1971 Honda CB350 i got used in 1975 (i was 18 )
My go fast days are behind me (mostly :-) ) i try to keep it no more than 40kph over and usually 20-30 over. (here its 40 over and vehicle impound for 7 days if the cops
catch you) And that still pretty fast in some parts of the highway due to a speed limit increase (100kph to 110kph and 110 to 120 farther out)

Insurance not too bad. i insure the bike for 6months and scooter for the year. Works out to the same if i just had the bike insured for 1 yr.
And yes i am in Vancouver. Born in Toronto, came out here in 1991. If you looking to move out here stay in "the lower mainland". Tho it does snow
here usually doesnt last long and a cold winter is like -5 nights and 2c days.

What got me out of Vancouver was the endless rain.

Im originally Irish. Moved here couple of years ago. What made me move away from Ireland is the endless rain also. Does it really rain there that much?
Was there during last summer weather was great. Lack of rain in Ontario is pretty decent

Well I just googled it, average is 180-210 days of rain per year, depending on where in BC you are...:D

"You lost 15 friends on motorcycles? and you have only been riding since 2008? was this a group ride that fell off a cliff or are you being serious?"-ZX600

It rained so much my room mate grew webbed toes.

The last summer it drizzled every morning about 530. Not a real rain but still precipitation

My last job required me to be in Vancouver at least two weeks each year. Out of a total of 8 weeks there (over the course of 4 years), no matter what time of season I went, it went through an endless cycle of rain, light showers, overcast, pouring rain. My son had work in London England last year for 6 months and couldn't wait to get out of there. It's the same story; it can be very depressing. I figure you need to be born there to stick with it.

And while riding all year sounds appealing, I'm not a big fan of riding in the rain for half the year.

So I stayed in Toronto and got involved in the seasons, skiing, hockey, sleding, etc. etc and enjoy the full seasonal experience. Enjoy it all riding, sailing, skiing, etc.... Nice try, but Vancouver's got nothing on us.

only rains once a year in Vancouver. Starts in November and ends in April :)

but ya it can get that way during the above months. Weeks of rain and or cloudy and no sun. But
do not get the temperature extremes of GTA with -50 winters and +50 summers. Those high temp high humidex
GTA summers are torture.

There you get the polar vortex, here it is the pineapple express.

"Pineapple Express is a non-technical term for a meteorological phenomenon characterized by a strong and persistent flow of atmospheric moisture and associated with heavy precipitation from the waters adjacent to the Hawaiian Islands and extending to any location along the Pacific coast of North America. A Pineapple Express is an example of an atmospheric river, which is a more general term for such narrow corridors of enhanced water vapor transport at mid-latitudes around the world."

I do like the "4 seasons" we get here, and I do love all the snow... but it was Vancouver that Attracted me to Canada. Long story how I ended up in Ontario.. but BC does have a few better things than Ontario..

ie.
* Great Ski Fields
* Lot more laid back
* better use of the port area (green space/Stanley park etc)
* Better Liquor laws (Just about anywhere else in this country has!)
* Real Mountains
* Cheaper insurance compared to here.. I was there in 1997 and got a car insured for 3 months for $300ish.. for a car worth $750 and I thought that was mega expensive (compared to NZ!) .. mind you I was a "foreign" traveller.
* More people that understand Kiwi's and Aussies and dont ask stupid questions to us ;-)

ofcourse there's also a list of less then desirable things..

* Rains a lot there ;-)
* lots of druggies and petty crime downtown
* higher cost of living
* lack of decent IT work
* people can be "clicky" there
* more hairy hippie vegan chicks

I was in Vancouver in July and the weather was outstanding with zero rain and temps in the high 20's.

so to update. Picked up the new 2015 Honda CBR500RA on Friday March 27. Of course it now going to rain every day for the next 3 months it seems :)
so here is pic of new bike and both bikes parked.
