A trip of a lifetime Ontario to Washington - California and back July - Aug 2014

Along the way I stopped in Depoe Bay to watch the whales.
I could of sat here for hours watching them.
Unfortunately accommodations where limited but I still managed to rest here for quite a spell.
I then pressed onto Westport.
I'll post more tomorrow.











 
California has those rubber collars on gas nozzles too. I remember my first gas stop there, I pulled in and noticed a woman having difficulty putting gas in her car and running in to the store to talk to the clerk. I laughed to myself, until the same happened to me! You either push the nozzle all the way into the tank (which can't be done on my bike because of the tunnel) or you pull back on the collar with your other hand. The collar is meant to reduce hydrocarbon vapor escaping to the atmosphere. Yeah, California.
 
Once i returned to Westport I spent a little over a week there.
I wanted a good rest before I started heading back east.
Also the nephew was going to travel back with me and he needed to clean up a few loose ends.
I took this time to get the bike serviced and check out some of the local Bar BQ












 
We made plans on when to leave and our destination points.
First stop would be to try and make it to Spokane.
We got the bikes ready and decided to head out Thursday morning.

Hey all.
So we left in the morning and made it all the way to Coeur d'Alene

It was a pretty uneventful ride.
Was nice to get to do #12 again in the opposite direction.
Once we checked in motel in Coeur d'Alene we went looking for a place to eat.

So glad we stopped here for diner.
We even got to meet the owner.









 
The next day we made our way to billings MT.
We would spend 2 nights here as we had to get a large service done on one of the bikes.
So we grabbed a loner and did another tour of Beartooth Pass and stopped and had a beer in Cooke City then back.
After 2 nights we made our way to Sturgis.

Billings was a nice rest before we had to continue east even if it was only for a couple days.
Once the bike was complete we continued on to Sturgis.
By the time we got there it was a ghost town.
We stayed downtown at the Holiday Inn and had supper at the Knuckle.
I kept telling myself "you wouldn't of be able to do this a week ago"











 
After our night in Sturgis we continued on.
The next day was a big day in order to make it to La Crosse
661ml or 1063km
We made it just before dark and found a nice steak place for diner.
The next day we would ride to Milwaukee and grab the 12:30 Ferry to Muskegon then it would be a 5 hour straight shot home.
Or so we hoped.
Unfortunately is was raining and that 5 hour turned into 7 but none the less we made it home.

So I’m back from my trip and this is my full recap.
I really enjoyed this trip and am glad that I had the opportunity to do it.
I will take the time now to post some of my favorite parts of the trip.

First I want to clarify the miles that I did.
In my first post there was an error.
Total trip was 15,150 km or 9,413 miles

Really enjoyed the northern parts of MI (UP)…wish I could remember the name of the mom and pop place that I got that pizza at.

Great Days Inn with a Bar / restaurant in Casselton ND

I was shocked that I couldn’t get a room in Billings MT on a Monday night.
Good thing I knew about the great accommodations in Red Lodge.

Glacier Park…this was never in the plans but throughout this trip I met lots of other bikers that had just been there.
They all praised what a great ride it is and I’m really glad that I added it to my trip
This is a must if you are ever in the area.

#12 from Lolo MT to Lewiston ID….wow what a great ride.
At one point an eagle was flying beside me a couple feet above the river.
I didn’t get a picture of this but its something ill never forget.

Having a condo to stay in for a week really helped with this trip.
I needed it to recharge the batteries.

Overall….I don’t know if ill ever get the opportunity to do a trip like this ever again.
I’m so glad I was able to do it this year.
I met some of the greatest people east and west.

Yea ! I'm MAYNARD... KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.. I did 7245 in one mth. July I st. Till Aug 3 ..lucky rained only once .. I was in a musen at ft Lenworth.....
 
Hi there! Looks like you had an amazing time. How did you deal with all those hours alone? Ever wonder "what the hell am I doing here?"
I did a similar trip this summer too. Left Montreal, rode across Canada to BC, then down the coast. I spent about 2 weeks riding around California. Colorado was definitely a highlight.
