If you rest your feet on the shifter when you're not shifting it could be the culprit of faster wear.
No, I used to rest my foot on the shifter when I first started riding. It was a bad habit. No gears were changed unless I put pressure on the shifter.
Most likely, my bike has around a half a inch of play before you need to clunk it to the next gearDifferent bikes, I guess.
Don't really care about the look of it all, I wouldn't have noticed it at all if my foot hadn't started slipping off sometimes as I was shifting down but like I said in another reply I turned it on its side and it's fine now. I was more worried about whether or not I was doing something wrong. And no I don't rest my foot on the shifter when not shifting and seeing as the underside is just as worn was the top I'm less worried now as it seems it's normal wear.Does it bother you to ride it worn down or you want to replace it for looks? I have over 50k kms with it worn down on my street bike. I wear them down quick and just stopped trying to fix it as it doesn't affect my riding at all. When I shift I slide my foot off the peg rather than lifting my foot straight back off which is why I wear them out so quick. How do you move your foot when you shift? You can also look at an aftermarket shifter that doesn't have the rubber if you don't want to keep replacing it but as said its not something that you have to hurry up and change.
