Which is superior? Military specification combat pants or Kevlar jeans?

Military specification combat pants (50/50 nylon/cotton rip-stop) sewn to military specification FQ/PD 07-14A. (reference sample http://www.epropper.com/p-76-battle-rip-acu-trouser-multicam.aspx)

OR

Kevlar jeans (100 cotton twill) sewn with Kevlar. reference sample (http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-d6-kevlar-jeans)

I've owned three pairs of mil-spec pants for paintball and know they are extremely tough and rugged pants. You punish them - sliding, crawling, bush-whacking. I have never had a singe rip or tear. I think they may be a stronger pant? And I know some models are made to be compatible with strap-on armor.

Just curious what your thoughts are, or if anyone has experience with both type of pant.

I do not know about military spec pants but kevlar sucks. When I low slided at 60km/h they did not do much of anything but fall apart.

I think part of the answer will depend on the quality of each. I've seen Kevlar jeans that I wouldn't feel safe in falling off a bicycle let alone my motorcycle. I would say that a good quality Kevlar jean with additional padding in the knee/hip area would be better but have nothing to support that other than personal opinion. I would say that either are better than regular jeans however...

Military fabric has no abrasion resistance. They only have rip-stops & light absorbing dyes which are of no use from road rash. I have 3 pairs of combat pants. I'm doing a collection of different camos

Another thing, some are very thin for ventilation in warm climates. I'm sure that will not fair well in a fall

I was in the Infantry. Anytime you're dealing with military gear, you have to remember 2 words....Lowest Bidder. Spring for dedicated motorcycle gear.

Both of you are being confused...that is the job of the marketing and brands out there, what kevlar you are talking about is the "look alike" kevlar like "Twaron", the military kevlar is completely different, and depends on applications.

Kevlar was developed by the DuPONT group. Using Nomex, Technora and para aramid synthetic fibers. First intent was to replace steel in applications that required flexibility and light weight etc, they first used them in racing tires, body armour, frying pans, shirts, cycles, marine, building contructions, shoes, clothes etc. for all uses to per steel weight ratio it is five times stronger the steel, again that could be one steel thread vs one kevlar thread which in either case are not strong.

So it does not mean if you wear kevlar you won't get a road rash, it is five times stronger in the same value to its metal comparison, and in a jacket the kevlar could be very low volume strenghth, so the resistance to lets say a 20 kmh slide to a 100 kmh slide wear will depend on how expensive the pants or jacket is, the more expensive the kevlar the higher resistance to road sliding for example.

but ALL kevlar weakens in UV...sun rays, so it completely defeats the purpose to get a mesh kevlar jacket for summer...but they will never tell you that, because in this world no one gives a flying cock except to sell you telling the goods of the product and making money.

Also unless the jecket or pants says Kevlar..with DuPONT on it, its not real kevlar, only DuPONT has that right to distribute the name kevlar....what kevlar is a aramid synthetic fibre, so you should be calling what you're looking for aramid synthetic fibre pants.

The pants you are not having good luck with lasting in slides is probably because if they are infact made by dupont they are only kevlar XP grade which is commercial clothing light weight crap you might as well buy hard protector motorcycle pants and leather jackets. there are many other kevlar grades, like body armor like bullet proof vets and tactital special forces jakets which i have they are kevlar KM2 and Kevlar K129. The only "kevlar" that is knife proof, blast proof are special forces and infantry protective armour. Even in the military, the special forces will have better kevlar then the regular army.

more money, better kevlar synthetic fibre.

When it comes to pants, no tear...motorcycle powerranger suit only! sad to say...period.
