2014 Pro 6 Cycle Trackday Schedule..

Naa, that's normal. What I find weird is only 35 on Calabogie, but I think that's the track restriction for insurance reasons.
That may be normal for pro6 but that's still a lot of guys on a very short track.

I guess I'm spoiled because we used to run our days on long with only 20-25 riders.

Boogie with 35 is perfect given the length

Good luck for the season. I'll be at Mosport big track and every Calabogie weekend in spirit. Maybe you could video Sandys riders meeting speech and make up a DVD for me? So I don't miss it too much?

I'll have to settle for Silverstone, Mallory Park, Oulton Park and Cadwell (if I can grow a pair in time) this season.
That's too bad. I eas hoping to ride bogie with you. Will you be back next year. Or can I plan on staying with you during the TT. Lol :)

I will probably be back summer 2014 for a couple of weeks. No idea if I will be riding though. Might have to lean on one or two friends for a loan of their bike. 2015 is very up in the air.

Thank you in advance for the time spent to answer my questions! It's much appreciated.

I plan on starting to motorcycle in spring 2014; and will be taking the appropriate motorcycle safety courses. Although I have no intentions of racing, I would definitely like to participate in track days to learn how to be a better and safer rider. To learn techniques and handling that may save my life.

My question is; at what point is someone ready to start track days? Green group obviously. I know this is not an easy question, with many variables. You must obviously have mastered the basics of riding.

What have been your observations, regarding people who have great first track days, compared to those who go too early? Any common themes?

What would you recommend as a first track day experience? I'm in Durham Region, so Mosport is closest - the RDT track maybe?

Thanks again!

I would say you should get to the track ASAP, but don't go to an open track day, take a course. FAST Riding School operates at Shannonville. They will teach you many basics of riding and will progress to much more advanced techniques. I only mention FAST because that's what I took. I can't comment directly on any others.

+1 for FAST. Shannonville is also a flat track, so you can see through every corner. Both tracks at CMTS and the one up in Calabogie have elevation changes and some blind corners, so that can be intimidating for a first timer.

As a minimum be comfortable cornering at speed and hold your line. People will go around you, just be predictable and don't freak out and try to get out of anyone's way.

The DDT is not a bad idea, none of us have ridden it so it'll be new to us all.

Be a sponge and listen to the right people. Pro6 has orientation sessions, and may be able to hook you up with a coach for a few. Call them and set something up.

See you at the track.

FAST school is a good choice. Racer5 is also a good choice. Riding on the track is very different than riding on the street. You will learn more in 1 day of track riding than a season of street riding. Of course, basic competency is expected as meme mentioned. Ask around the board and see if you can find another rider going to a trackday (often they have the gear, canopy, truck/trailer, etc) and knowledge of how ti all works. If you go it alone, just let the trackday provider know its your first time and they will help you out. We are all out there for the same reason, to have a great time, and improve our riding skills. We all had our first track day once too.
