Insurance Quotes..

Hello,

I am currently in the process of trying to find quotes on bikes to figure out what I can afford.
I have my G2 and can officially get my M2 Dec,15/2013. I am 17 years of age and would like to get a dual-sport suzuki for the spring.
The few companies I have phoned were RBC, StoneRidge, and Cowan.

Cowan gave me a quote of $6100 (), I am not sure if that is a good price or a bad one. I do realize that I am in Ontario and that insurance is expensive, especially for a first time insurer like myself.

I was wondering if I could get a list of companies that would insure a 17 y/o on a 400cc Dual-Sport.

If I could get a few it would greatly help, I do realize the best bet would probably be to wait, but after doing my M1 Exit course and getting bit by "the bug", I dont think I could bare to wait till I am 18/19.

Whats wrong with 125s and non sporty 250s? If you dont like them then, pay up if you want to play in the big games kiddo

They won't be much cheaper than a 400cc DualSport. No need to be condescending either chief.

Spitfire, you'll be looking at prices in the 4500-6000 range for your first season. Get your M2 and sit on it as long as possible before looking for insurance. Being 17 hurts you big time as well. When you do look for insurance try Desjardins before anyone else. They seem to be most forgiving for young/new riders.

Desjardains requires 1yr experience.

Ahh is thst so? I didnt even know. I was given a $1,500 difference in premium from a 125 to a 300. Well i suppose i didnt do my research at the time then. Good luck with insurance. Check scotia bank. Theyre pretty new so theres a chance that youd get cheaper insurance there too n

Didn't know that, I guess OP is gonna have to sit on it for a year.

I personally don't find $1500 a huge difference when we're talking about $4000+ but when I shopped around at 19, it was $3400 for a drz400sm and $3200 for a ninja 250. Didn't quote a 125.

They must have changed it up. My wife let her M2 expire last year. She got it again this summer. Her bikes ins is up for renewal and I called this week. They said no go since she technically just got her M2 this summer.

When did you get your M2?

He hasn't got his M2 yet, his post says he is eligible to get his M2 on 15 Dec 2013.

I got my M1 in May 2012, M2 in july and bought/ insured my bike mid july. From july 2012 to May 2013, I've insured 3 bikes. (All less than a year on my M)

I was replying to KarGo.

@KarGo, wierd. I understand the multiple bikes, if you were already a customer they wouldn't just drop you. This must be a recent change to the rules. As soon as I said the date (and even explained the situation) she said not, that less than a year is a flag to not insure her, even though I have a current policy with them (for my bike) and own the 2nd bike, she would be primary. She's even been insured the the last 5 and they said no.

Unless things have changed, I've been insured 2 week after my M2.
No need to wait a year.

Same here. Two days after getting my M2 I was insured by them. Desjardains was 25% cheaper than any other quote I received. I got my license this year.

Well it's to late now, her renewal date is past and we have another with last years company, price isn't the worst out there. I must have called just after they changed corporate policy, it's not unheard of companies changing the rules. I've been riding for almost 10 yrs now and it's not the first times I've seen the rules change. I know they were new to Ontario and trying to build market share, maybe they are happy with the share they have and are starting to freeze out newbies now to lower risk.

Has anybody else in the last week called with less than a year exp and been denied/accepted?

From exp, I found The Personal about 5% cheaper than the desjardin. I believe the personal is for group rates. fyi, Desjardin is the parent company of the personal.

@tat2 try ^ or call them a couple times. Some agents make assumptions based on what they've heard. eg, one agent told me I had to be 25yr.
