How to transfer a clean title track bike with bill of sale only?

There's a bike that I'm fairly interested in, went to get the UVIP today and found out that it was never registered.
The bike was originally sold to Turn2 and later sold to the person currently selling it with a bill of sale only.

I know a lot of people buy and sell bikes with just a bill of sale, but I prefer to have the ownership transferred to my name.

I called Service Ontario today to see how I can transfer the title under my name and they said something about NVIS documents and a bill of sale from the seller to me.

The seller does not have the NVIS documents so it makes it a little tricky.

The golden question is, how do I go about putting this bike under my name at this point?
 
Get the owner of the bike to go to service ontario to obtain the ownership paper. Then have the person mail, deliver or meet up to obtain the document.

I believe an ownership or a written legal statement is necessary to transfer a vehicle over. Not doing so, the current owner can legally take the bike back because you do not have legal proof that you own the bike.
 
That's the thing there is no ownership... Just a bill of a sale.
It was never registered, the bike went from the dealer to the track.
 
You may have to get the original owner to write something for you if the bill of sale from the current owner doesnt work for service ontario. Just went through this with the gf with a frame and we had to track down the previous-previous owner. On a side note, if it was one of turn2's rental bikes I would be VERY thorough in going through it. Most were auctioned off a couple years ago and were in very rough shape. It may look alright, but that fleet was ridden hard and put away wet.
 
as much as you like having a title in your name, there really isn't a reason for it (unless you plan to insure it), your going to pay tax on the transfer.

and I believe that the tax you will be paying will be from brand new, since the bike was never registered. Ask about that before you go about registering it......
 
The only time it becomes a pita to not have ownership is either putting it back to the street or taking it across the boarder.

Agree you should look the bike over thoroughly. I bought mine 4 years ago and it had obviously been down a few times. But it ran well, the forks and frame were straight. In the end it has served me well and I've crashed it a few times myself. My point?

Don't be scared of a used school bike. Do your due diligence though. I wanted a cheap bike that had a some war wounds so I wouldn't be crying over every little scratch. And even 4 years on, I wouldn't trade it for something shiny.

If you plan on doing tracks in the US an ownership helps a lot.

You pay tax on whatever is on the bill of sale.
 
Is turn2 still in business? If its their name, go get an ownership for it from them.
 
I got a Turn 2 bike as well, now you got me thinking what are you going to do with the ownership if you get it, what is the benefit to having the ownership aside from taking it across the border? Is not a bill of sale sufficent?

Turn 2 is no longer in business so what would my options be?

Personally I would not buy a bike without ownership salvage or clean, no matter what I plan to do with the bike.............So for resale just like he is contemplating about it now, it makes a difference to some people

Understood so what are my options now aside from buying a new frame and switching everything over?

Just like he said don't bother without ows, i had the same problem with my gixxer. Now that shes gone i won't even bother to get another bike if doesn't have any papers. But that's me;-)
