A "mud sprocket" won't help when you drop into a hole and bang the chain on the outside. (I once landed on the sprocket on a rock, spit the chain, bent the sprocket... about a mile and a half out in a hare scramble. Nice push). A shark fin WILL help.
The isn't much more to it. Grind off every third tooth. The idea is to give the debris a place to go.
Solid rotors are a MUST for mud racing. Yes you'll burn off a set of new pads in one race, without ever touching the brake, with regular rotors. You can also easily overheat and ruin a rotor in the mud.
