2nd bike can't make a decision

Then, why did you upgrade?

It was a life milestone for me, I've wanted an SS since I was very very young. In hindsight, however, I should have pushed my first bike harder through corners.

thanks for all the tips. BTW idk if i already mentioned this but i do not plan on getting a super sport. AND I only suggested a 650 because i heard of people learning on those as there first bike so i figured it might be a good step up. BUT , now i think i might just work my way up a little slower to the big bikes and look at the ninja 300's. I saw the SV650S today not sure what year it was but was thinking that the size of that bike didn't look to big to handle and the seating position didn't look that aggressive.

I will definitly put on more miles on the 125 before i jump on a bigger bike. atleast another 5000km.

Yup - same thing in Australia but there is a second test regardless of age if you want to ride anything in the open class - 650 or 47 hp plus.

So for instance a 650KLR is rated Learner but a 600SS is for advanced licence only.

As a result - liability insurance on my ST1100 is $137 a year for solo seat and $265 for dual seat.

It's one reason Japan and Aus are the only two places you can get the lovely CBR400R 4 cylinder.

i hope they bring these to canada. i wouldnt mind upgrading on this.

what do you guys think about the cbr 500r? and that seating position

Motorcycling is a passion for most. So what is your passion leaning towards? Which bike makes your heart thump out of your chest when you look at it?

Know that, then ask your questions, then ignore all the stupid responses (a Hyabusa answer will get you a lot of negative responses for good reason). I had a brand new VFR750 in 87 when I was 17, second year on the road after moving from a GS400E. I put 75K kms on that bike and rode it hard enough to grind the exhaust bolt heads to an angle from scraping the pavement. The ones UNDER the engine. Pick and choose your times to be aggressive, understand your capabilities, and you'll be fine with any bike you choose.

This season is all most over, so take your time, enjoy the ride, be safe, get some miles behind you, then upgrade.

when i saw the cbr600rr for the first time i got that thump in my chest just looking at it. but that is my main goal for me is to own one of those one day and feel comfortable enough to hop on it and ride with confidence and knowledge that i gained over the years. But for now i think i will be looking into either the sv650 or the ninja 300 or cbr500r.

I'd lean towards the sv650s. I had a 2002 great bike, awesome engine, builds power at very low revs compared to an inline engine. Very light weight and flickable. Can be found used pretty cheap, you will pay a premium for a cbr500, not too many used ones yet. Again though check insurance costs before jumping in. IMO, the 650 v twin in that bike is one of the most fun engines on the market. Although the v strom is more my riding position/style.

Thanks iceman I was leaning towards the 650s also. Looks like it would be a good 2nd bike.

I got my cbr500r in may, first bike. I took it home on Friday and back on Monday for the 1000km service.

It sat in the shop for 32 days in august waiting for parts and i just got it back little over a week ago but i do love the bike. I have almost 10,000km on it now and if insurance will allow ill be upgrading to at least a 600 super sport in the spring.

Do yourself a favor and skip the 250/300 coming from a 125. A 500 or 650 twin will be a good upgrade if you are not ready for a proper ss.

Ya I think I'm ready for.the 500cbr. Next spring if your selling your cbr save my contact and PM me

What is your height?....the CBR500s are relatively small bikes.
The CB500x for instance is a full sized frame.
So bear frame size in mind on your next choice if you are on the tall side....if you've been feeling cramped on the 125 then the CBR500r may not be large enough.
If the 125 seating and position feels good and just wants more power then the CBR500 should be an excellent step up.

All that series are rated as "Learner" bikes elsewhere based on their horsepower. Ontario is stupid rating solely afaik on CC.

Ya 125 isn't to cramped up but would like a bigger frame so I think the cbr500 would be perfect but I doubt I will find one for sale . there is so few of them. That's why im probably Going with the sv650s

OP I am glad you are enjoying motorcycling. I remember your thread a while back when you were asking for advice. At 6ft 1" on a cbr125 that's a little cramped. I would suggest with only 1000kms under your belt you go for a Kawi 650, SV 650 or even an old Kawi 500 if you don't mind the fugly looks. If the SS bug has really got you, get a F4i. Good luck with your choice.

Haha since I post I put another 1000km so make that 2021km now

What the difference between a f4i and a f4

From one newb to another, I will just say that your 125 or 250 is a fine vehicle. It's lean and light and is fuel efficient. It's great for learning techniques and building confidence with.

I have a TU250X which has an upright UJM seating position. Do I wish I could go faster on the super slab? Sure as its top speed is 120 km/hr. For everything else it's the bee's knees. I'm actually happy with this bike and don't feel a need to get rid of it. If you think you want a Harley and won't be regularly super-slabbing it, you should check this one out instead.

I also admire the CBR125 when I see them. There is a clean red one that parks at the GO station. It looks good.

I saw a pink Ninja in the middle of a crowd of sons of anarchy lookalikes the other day. It looked good too.

Light and nimble is a good thing!
