Curious...mileage question

Thinking about selling my bike and upgrading to something newer. Always wondered what people thought was considered high mileage on a Super Sport?

My F4 had 109k before selling and still ran strong
My 08RR has 29k.

Cheers

Go to google.com and type in:

site:gtamotorcycle.com high mileage

All the answers await you.

Thanks for the reply, i did google that specific page, a little info on the subject. Seems like there is differences of opinion on this topic perhaps for lack of knowledge and/or understanding of the engines and proper maintenance schedules.

That's because the answer varies. It depends on how the bike was ridden, how it was maintained, the manufacturer. etc.
Short answer, >100,000 is high for SS. 29,000 is not high. Older bikes with low kms are actually likely to give more problems.

Im curious about valve adjustment on SS that have 25K+

It all depends on maintainence and who owned it previously and how much they took care of it
I would put the 60,000km mark on a bike around the 200,000km point on a car.

I believe he is around 250,000 Miles now. (His Car also has 650,000 Miles on it)

If the valves need adjustment, it is likely because they have seated in and are now not sealing when closed.
This can be checked in minutes with a compression test on every cylinder. while doing this, examine the plugs.

With proper maintenance, this is about right.

Those airport cabs typically do not retire until 500,000 -600,000 kms.

People sell cars because they have trouble at higher kms, because they don't realize stuff needs to be replaced, but the vehicle can actually have a long life assuming it hasn't corroded away.

People consider mileage historically, but modern bikes with water cooling, EFI and synthetic oils, modern alloys last a really long time if not abused.

The money is not in the engines, but typically the chassis bearings, forks, shocks, and electricals. The new concern is all the computer units and ABS on modern bikes -these are notorious on even $20,000 exotic bikes. Both Nissin and Bosch have had recalls.

Having said all that.. most GTA bikes are abused, and there is a lot of junk on Kijiji even below 50,000kms.

From what I've gathered over the years, most people consider 30K the magic number. Over 30K and they get all sheepish about mileage. Like it's supposed to blow up at any km over that.

Silly.

Not silly. Some idiots can easily ruin a GSXR in under 30,000kms. Some of these high-rpm, high stress SS bikes go through hell.

Agreed if you are buying from a broke student.

Generally speaking, if the seller can back up the maintenance claims, there shouldn't be an issue with 30K

A cylinder compression test and visual inspection of sprockets, brake discs and tires tells you a lot. Also, bring the engine to a high idle and blip the throttle. Blue smoke? ..run.
