Broken key in luggage

So a while ago my key broke in one of my cases on the vfr. They are the factory boxes but I bought them used and the guy lost one of the keys, so now I have no keys!

I called Brampton powerhouse and they told me they can't help me. I've also called around to a few local shops and they weren't able to do anything ether.

Does anyone know of a locksmith or a shop the can help me out, either by taking out the locks and installing new ones or making me a new key?

The ebay link looks like the simplest option. But if that doesn't work out any decent locksmith should be able to help you.
Are you able to extract the broken key from the lock using needle-nose pliers? If so, it should be easy enough for a locksmith to duplicate provided it snapped at the shank.

It is pretty easy to do the locks yourself if you can remove the busted one and get new locks. I did it on my top case. Not hard at all, and saves you paying a shop to do a 15 minute job.

Unfortunately the key broke about half way down the notches and the bags are locked! The key comes out only in the locked position but there are at least two tumblers in front of the piece of key and I can't seem to hold them back and fit anything to reach down and grab it.

I called a local locksmith and it sounds like it wont be a problem for him, but he wants $75-$100!

I can't promise any results but you're welcome to swing by my place and I can try to give you a hand with it. Sounds like it just requires some delicate finagling to get the key out. I also have lock picks that may or may not come in handy.

Thanks for the offer, and that is exactly what it needs. I may take you up on your offer but hopefully I found someone who can help just waiting for them to call me back, and it shouldn't cost me $100!!

No problem man, just shoot me a PM if your plan doesn't work out. Good luck!

Ok, it took me a while to line up with the guy because I was on night shift but I got new keys cut.

Better Cut Keys in Georgetown... he cut them off the broken key after he extracted the other half from the lock. I met him on a job but he didn't have the right sized blank with him. He took one of my bags home with him and the next day they were ready. Cost me $40.

I still don't understand when someone gets a vehicle or something with only one key, the first thing on their mind is NOT to get a spare and put it in a safe place. Preventative measures usually save you a lot more money and headache than reactive ones.
