Surprised this ride wasn`t posted on here but tonight there must have been about 500 motorcycles rallying down to the Port of Newcastle to support Max Begley, an autistic Newcastle boy whose grandmother received a disgusting letter last week from a neighbor regarding Max and his disability. CityTV News and a few other cameras, police escorts and the whole subdivision attended. Read up on the support and story of Max here...

I live in the Port of Newcastle and must say that I have never seen such an increbile event in my town and am simply touched by the motorcycle community and it`s support.

Aweome work and thank you to all who came out to support Max and his family. They are planning a fun day / event for Max tomorrow (Saturday August 24) in the park at the Port of Newcastle for anyone looking to come out to support an incredible cause and go for a nice ride.

Awesome work everyone once again!!!

Saw this on the news last night , one amazing touching story... really hit home as I have friends who
have Autistic children... who ever wrote the letter deserves a beat...

Good to see people are still human. They should have driven by the author of the letters house and made noise. :laughing6:

Oh there was lots of noise thats for sure. The author states in the letter that he/she lives in proximity to their house so I assure you they heard and saw it all!!! Wait till the public finds out who the author really is!

The cynical side of me thinks it was the grandmother. The mother is confined to a wheelchair, the father works to try to support both her and Max. It's a difficult situation with few ways out, creating a viral campaign where people throw money at you could be seen as a viable option.

Personally I think the way we deal with autism in Ontario is deplorable and more should be done to help.

Could the neighbour hear the kid screaming above the sound of the bikes? Lol.

I've lived in the US, and the attitudes of the GTA is becoming more and more "american" every year. F--k your neighbour and get a bigger TV.

I have a nephew who is severley autistic.. Something which alot of you have probably not seen before.

15 yrs old, almost 6ft tall, 200 lbs, has never spoken a word in his life, screams full out and smashes his head with his fists when its a bad bay he removes the hair off his head, with the constant pounding on his skull. If you try to stop him from doing so, he will bite, or attack you.

Its easy for everyone to say the woman that wrote this letter is a monster.. Its easy because no-one wants to come out and agree with the unpopular choice.

was the letter poorly worded, Yes. But I can understand the frustration she must feel with having to hear and see this kid all the time.
Everyone that says this woman was horrible for writing it, ask yourself if you'd like to live next to my Nephew.
He doesnt care that you have to work in the morning, when he throws a fit at 3am.
or when the parents let him ourtside anytime he wants, becasue its easier to just go along with what the kid wants, or its Fists in the head for 2 hours.

full Out screams that sounds like someone is being murdered at all hours of the night, or day. How would you like that ?
how would you like your children to be playing, when he comes around, and doesnt understand that their toy trucks arent his ?

Its funny, isnt it.. With having this disability in our family, you'd think i would be supportive of the kid. But im not.

Do i feel bad for the parents and the kid, yes i do. Its a shame that they didnt abort. am I a Sick Monster for feeling that way ? maybe.
but to all you that havent spent time with a severe autistic, its not RainMan, and math tricks, and memory games.

i bet you 90% of the people that jumped on this bandwagon, couldnt deal with living next to a kid like that for a week.

i do hope they find some type of cure, , not so severe cases you can deal with, But with severe cases, like my nephew.. the only difference between being brain dead, and that, is that he doesnt need a machine to breathe, so you cant pull the plug.

yeah, its the unpopular way of thinking, and no-one wants to admit it in public. But deep down, you'll agree with me.

My son is autistic. Fortunately for him, he is high-functioning, but I can assure you, I know what a "fit" looks like. My issue with your post is much like the issue any parent of an autistic would have. You don't know ahead of time that your child has been afflicted with this. Looking outwardly "normal", you experience a full scale discrimination daily, as nobody will recognize the disabilities found on the spectrum. My son shows no signs of a disability, has a documented superior intellect, has a personality that will win anyone over, and when he has an episode, will punch his head and scare the crap out of anyone that doesn't know what to expect. The fun part is, there is SQUAT available for him. 2-3 year wait lists through health care, thousands spent privately, kicked out of school regularly, etc.

I can't say how I feel about your thinking. I can say that you're not alone, and that pretty much ALL autistic children suffer because of people like you thinking that way. It is the only disability that I am aware of where discrimination and abuse are not recognized and responded to. I'm glad that you live in the smug fiefdom that you have convinced yourself to be a viable reality. In life, you will come across any number of things that aren't palatable. It's up to YOU to deal with it, not ram an idiotic, NIMBYism onto everyone else. If these families had options remotely close to the ones available for other disabilities, this would not be an issue.

My neighbours have 16 and 17 year old kids who play DUF-DUF music all night and have parties with vomit and beer bottles all overt he place, Should we euthanize them?

Deep down, a-holes think everyone thinks like them.

My son is autistic.

Im happy that your Son is at least high functioning. WE have family Friends that have the same, It its a pleasure to be able to talk to them, and actually have a conversation.

But its quite another story when there is ZERO communication. For all we know, our nephew could be schizophrenic as well, or deaf in one ear, or blind in one eye, or suffer from headaches, or migraines, or any other number of things, but we'll never know.

Sadly, in this case, It doesnt matter what options are available, it wouldnt really matter. these children will soon be adults, and then whats going to happen ? who's going to look after them ?
these kids that are severe, have to be put into a home, or an institution.

you said your Son has Fits.. does he have 5-6 a day ? if he did, would you leave him outside, to wail away ? do you think your Neighbours would like that ? or is it **** the neighbours, my son has a problem and everyone else should deal with it, becasue I have to.

If, and Its a Mighty big If, If I had a Kid like that, I would stick him in a Home , or movce far enough away from everyone else, as to not disturb them., and Not just for the neighbours, but for the kid itself. because maybe some country peace and quiet might just settle down a kid like that.

as Far as the guy who complains about partying teenagers.. go punch them in the face and maybe they can change, autistics cant.

suggesting a partying teenager, and a person suffering from Autism should be treated the same is just idiotic.

You chaps are going waaay off topic here.

Stick with the thread please--this is meant to be a cheerful-pick-me-up type of thread..
