Yes i just found it it... i looked up the part number.. It matches a "hypermotard emission cannister"

But Why is it on my s2r?

The 1098/1198 has them as well. I bet they all do. They can be removed safely and not sure if its here or Ducati.org but one of the sites has step by step for a clean removal.

It came on my 696. It's no longer there.

Not sure about ducati but on Japanese sport bikes These Evap canisters and systems usually only come on California model bikes because if their strict emissions laws.

I think the current Euro spec is a tight as California, but with smaller production numbers for Duc vs. Japan, making different models to sell into different markets just doesnt work for them.

It's pretty likely that Ducati made a business decision to just make 'em all the same, and then not have to worry about whether a particular bike with a particular VIN gets sold in a California-emissions state or elsewhere.

Most of the Italian bikes do, like Aprilia .... maybe not all of the lines they sell, but I'd say most.

that container contains the ducatis soul....if you remove it or tamper with it and allow the contents to escape , your bike will sound and ride like a burgman

Flux Capacitor.

That's what KTM does too; all North America bikes conform to California specs (most stringent) and sold wherever in NA that they ship.

Goggle "remove charcoal canister".Lots of threads on the subject.Lol,i have three of em in my garage cupboards.Very easy to do.It takes longer to explain how to do it than the actual task.

If it saves even one life, it's worth it.

Sort of. For the new generation monster Ducati has stock parts to remove the canister and make it look like it was never there. Therefore somewhere they sell it without that junk.
