Are you kidding me? How many folks on the Aprilia RSV4 forum have had engines replaced and have issues with valve clatter and valve lash issues?

That's a different story. Yes the early motors have had issues, particularly in racing. I wouldn't buy anything older than a 2011 model. But I don't know why we're talking about them honestly... it's off-topic.

Wasn't talking about track days. Heads-up straight-line power. Rider is only there to keep the bike straight and the throttle pinned.

As I already said the fact california superbike uses them to circle the track all day long should be enough to stop any discussion about reliability

Because that only tells me that BMW California paid the most $$$ to sponsor and gave the best contract - mechanics + parts + bikes etc.
 
I was going to say that, Ugur. BMW has an interest directly in KC's business and makes damned sure those bikes work. :)

You havent seen the problems with the valves on the 2011 and newer ones?
 
Im not a fan of Electronics,

i bought the 2013 CBR1000rr. i believe to be the best litre bike FOR ME (certainly not for everyone).
I like Honda's philosophy, it is the rider's responsibility to operate in a safe manner.

relying on traction control or 4 riding modes to save you is just asking for trouble. if you plan on relying on the bike to help keep you safe i wouldn't recommend a Litre bike.

however
i will say the S1000 is VERY comfortable. I've always been a BMW fan, and would've picked one up myself...deal breaker for me was the electronic aids, just don't want them.

Lol, you can turn the electronics off.

Dont CBR600's and 1000's have ABS?

In a year or two when they come with TC and abs what are going to say about the honda philosophy?
 
2011+ have been pretty reliable. They re-engineered some of the oiling and changed materials on some components.

The only issue I know of with valves are that the seat pressures are fairly high and if the rider does a lot of hard, high-rpm downshifts, etc. it could lead to a valve failure. You'll see that mostly in racing where the rider really has no mechanical sympathy at all. Same can be said of a lot of bikes, titanium valves have been known to deform especially in racing applications. For modified bikes many are using the stainless steel valves out of the Tuono and going for a little less power in favour of midrange corner punch.

But I've yet to see one go blammo at Calabogie or Shannonville... :)

Aliki's R6 did last week. :(
 
I heard from a guy that has one that they have to be ridden hard and high revs in order to have good handling, otherwise they feel like crap.

I don't know if it is true, people talk a lot of ****.

Read any bike forum, you'll find some examples of busted bikes, for sure. Both my aprilias are mechanically loud, the Tuono especially. I take it out and flog it mercilessly year after year and it's been fine. <shrug>

But I've actually *seen* S1000RRs go boom at Calabogie. It's pretty rare to see engine failures at track days... the only other bikes I've seen die in recent were modified (engine worked) 600s and a couple of Ducatis, both older.

They aren't there to make sure the bikes aren't beaten on all day long In hot weather by people who don't care about the bike. So I would say that shows a lot of reliability. BMW has no reps or mechanics there its all California superbike staff.

Ofcourse you have seen more BMWs go boom......how many more BMW's have been sold? simple statistics.

You made a point of saying BMW has had issues after the first model year, and that Aprilia has fixed theirs which is not the case.

We dont know how often they replace engines for example. Its certainly a good sign that they use them, but we dont know the maintenance details

Wrong. I have seen as many as 6 RSV4s at a single track day. They are out there. Lots of them. I daresay they are a regular show. At 'bogie I see more of them than I see RC-51s. Hell, there were five of them at the DOCC day and only one Panigale that I saw. :)

It's not the case that Aprilia hasn't fixed theirs, you're right. 2011 saw significant changes. Aprilia has been really good about fixing and/or replacing motor issues.

No, but his point that there might be more of them at a given track day often is.
 
Over the last few years I have personally seen many more BMWs at the track. The Aprilias are growing in popularity this year. I think its self explanatory why more Italian bikes (Aprilia) would be at a Ducati track day than normal.
