Bought a used bike. Has an HID kit installed.

Read up a bit and I've come to the conclusion that they aren't exactly legal, not to mention the low beam is rather... blinding.

I have tried adjusting angle to no avail, perhaps I am not doing it properly but the low beam does not seem to change vertical at all no matter how many times I spin that little hand screw.

The high beam light is dead anyway, I was thinking of swapping the low beam HID to the high beam position and putting in a standard halogen bulb in the low beam area that way if I ever find myself in the middle of nowhere I have good illumination, but on city streets as cool as these look I don't wanna be that "guy".

Does anyone have any prior experience with these things, any other info on legality and such? I'm on an '08 ninja 250.

Yeah, you dont want to be blinding people with your lights. Also makes it hard to just speed/distance.. you may find yourself in dangerous situations with them. Good idea to swap it out.

I personally was going to get HIDs at one time but realized how "bad" they are in terms of blinding people etc. Not the result I wanted.

I've been riding with an HID on my bike. Only Issue I've ever had is the converter falling off (ended up getting industrial velcro, whatever velcro the previous owner had sucked).

I've gone so far as to tailgate cops with it, no one cares. My frd told me it's blinding if you shine it directly at someone but says it doesn't matter if I'm behind him (while he's driving). Plus, the light my brother uses on his speed bicycle is brighter than most car/motorcycle HIDs lol

That's good for you.

HIDs are awsome if you buy a proper projector kit. your high beam is probly not there cuz some hid bulbs dont have it in em. i got a full kit installed on my zzr and have never had a complaint, but i knlw ive complained tons when ppl in car on on bike swing into my mirrors with improperer installs an practically burn out my corneas. to each their own i guess

Zx6 has projectors already, makes installing **** simple.

lucky :P, lol, i had to become an electrician and a chef in order to install mine. im making sure next season the next move i make has stock projectors cuz im not goin through that crap again!

Only bad thing about projectors on bikes is when you lean into a corner the cut-off works against you and pretty much makes it a blind corner.

Watch the blind spot in the corner at around the 33sec mark in this video

It's illegal in the sense that you shouldn't do it, it could be annoying to others. But you won't get a ticket for it either...

unless you start going over 6000k
then it turns too blue/violet and at that level your field of vision is reduced.
they CAN ticket you (if theyre *****, need to meet a quota at the end of the month lol)

On your Ninja 250, one side is low beam and the other is high beam right? If that's the case there is no problem moving your low beam HID bulb over to the high beam side, and putting a standard H7 halogen bulb in the low beam side. The factory connector should be right there (assuming they didn't cut it to wire up the HID kit).

HID's without projectors generally suck for low beams.

Badly installed HIDs... yeah.

In the daytime I don't care. but at night, If I'm coming up on a turn, and some jackass is coming towards me with badly installed (any) headlights, and there are no streetlights I get blinded. And I can't see **** all until they pass. So I don't know where the corner is, and have to slow down to pretty much a stop, or risk over/under shooting.

Although, that could in part be because I have bad eyes, and I probably get a lot more glare than the average person.

They're 8000K so yeah pretty bright. Gonna go to that high beam side.

The higher the K, the bluer and dimmer the light is. 4300k is the brightest and whitest, 3000k slightly less bright but yellow.
