Looks or Specs?

Hey guy's. When it comes to choosing a bike, do you guy's go for looks or specs? When I bought my first bike I was looking for both specs and looks which led me to buying my gsxr 600. However, I would easily say that I would choose a bike that has better looks than a bike that has better specs but looks ugly...

What do you guy's go for?

I prefer riding way more than looking at or reading about, so I go by feel.

Looks and comfort.

+/-3 horsepower and 10lbs makes no bloody difference.

You can't see your bike when you're riding it. But you sure can feel it!
But then again, it still has to make you feel good when you look at it.

For example, on paper, a V-strom 650 is probably the all-round best bike I can think of for the type of riding I do, value, useability, etc. but I can't get over the looks so I would never own one. (Although the new ones look decent).

On the other hand, I had a 2001 Katana 750 which people regularly bash for it's looks, but I though it looked great! And it was perfect blend of sport-touring for me.

You only see 10% of the bike when your riding anyways. Looks to the rider shouldn't matter, only to whom your trying to attract~ you dig?

who are you to tell anyone what should/shouldn't matter when they buy a bike

Looks had nothing to do with it when you were choosing to ride a black Kawi with gold rims right? please

A bike or car that looks good on paper isn't necesarily better, power band etc smoothness.

I think the best thing to do is try and go with feel. specs like slipper clutch or steering damper abs no abs are more important than a .1 s faster 0-60

All japanese ss bikes look the same from 20 feet away, just get the colour you want.

lol u got me there.

Yes yes i am a graphic whore in general...

The uglier it is, the less heat you get on it. Sleeper all the way!

Sent from spaaaaace!

The hayabusa is considered grotesque by many, looks weren't really a factor.
The main thing I don't like about how the busa looks, from factory, is that GOD DAMN HUMP. It looks like a tumor. The bike is also a little longer; but other than that I think it looks alright.

@the OP. Depending on what style of bike you like to look at... For someone who loves the naked or streetfighter look they tend to buy a bike based on it's specs, and them modify it to look like they want it to.
If you like the look of certain supersports it'd be easier to just buy that specific bike instead of having plastics and subframes made to modify a different bike to look the same.

It also depends on the bikes usage.
I would think someone buying a dedicated track bike would spend more attention to specs than the plastics. Same with someone who hits hard twisties all day.
Whereas someone who just has the bike to commute, with the occasional joy ride would care more about comfort and looks.

I always get both. So many bikes available you can always get a look you want at any spec you like. What made you think you couldn't?

well if you hate the look of your bike, you may not ride it. You need to atleast accept the look. But specs are also some what overrater. IE say you compare for example the triumph Street Triple R vs Ducati Monster 796. Specs per reviews and such are favorable to the triumph, but dose that mean the duck is slow or not fun, hell no. Personal I would take the triumph but the duck dose have some serious sex appeal.

So it really would come down to personal choice. Sit on both, test ride both, which one feels better to you. Specs and looks are important but hey if a bike looks amazing and has amazing specs but dose nto feel right but the other which is not as sexy or as powerful feels better to you, guess what, then its your bike.

I have to admit I am a spec junkie.....I research bikes that I even have no intention of ever buying.

I also seem to be attracted to bikes that the majority consider very ugly.
I will always buy function over form. I will not make a sacrifice in a bike's ability to do it's duty, just to accomodate a certain look.

This.

I'm not an "SS" type of guy, but I've been recently attracted to one because of the looks, and the feel.

I've done the "naked, practical" bike for a while, now... me thinks its time to do the "looks awesome, feels awesome, but is horribly impractical" thing, before I get too old, LOL
