Buying Crashed Bike - Checklist

So a friend crashed a bike going 50 kph after hitting a deer. I was going to check out the bike to see if it's just cosmetic and then get an inspection for the frame. It's an 07 ninja 650 and he's selling for 1500 OBO (I'm thinking 1200)

I am going to use this: http://www.clarity.net/~adam/buying-bike.html to do an inspection before I fork out 140 to get a full inspection. Anyone see anything missing vis a vis frame inspection/other major components?

Thanks.

not trying to be a prick but...if you have to make a thread like this, you probably shouldn't buy a crashed bike.

if its a crashed bike then its always a gamble regardless how much you check and inspect.

You kind of were.

I said I just was looking for tell tale signs before I took it to a mechanic to get it inspected. I know about using string front the front to back wheels to check alingment, but that doesn't lead itself to a quick inspection. What I was looking for is maybe a mechanic who knows that "if I see one of these three things, I know it's bent".

I figure since I've plastic welded, tig welded, can run electrics I could do the repairs myself.

But thanks.

He really wasn't. He's just trying to help prevent you getting in over your head. If you need to ask what to look for, then you may not know enough to fix the bike properly.

That being said, if you realize the risks then by all means purchase it after getting it inspected.
