Smokers around bike

The word 'Chinese' should be capitalized, and why his does race matter anyway?
Just ask him not to smoke by your bike. A-holes come in every shape & color

Would it have made a difference if he hadn't been "Chinese", just asking?

Oh, I see where this is going....
And if he had said some "African guy" or "Russian chick" would you have asked that question?, just asking....?

He simply stated the race of the person he saw at that particular time, no harm...no foul.

Yes, I would have. I simply don't see the necessity in stating the race. Just saying :)

Fair enough, I just find it interesting that when a race is connected to a positive experience, no one has a problem. The second race is connected to a negative experience it becomes an issue. Either way...its just his experience and I highly doubt he meant anything more than what he stated....know what I mean...

So I keep seeing ash on my seat all the time...today i catch some chinese guy around my ride smoking.. I was going to lose my cool but left.... If this repeats is using his face to wipe the seat ok thing to do?

If this was the Florida, and you were carrying, you could shoot him and claim that he came up to you (stand your ground).

Right!

Ow wait, if I remember correctly the shooter was not a white guy and he was being beaten before he shot. Guess you missed that part.

Perhaps gender shouldn't ever be uttered as well, or any reference to age, height or weight.

One thing I noticed visiting Toronto this summer on my trips was that people are a lot less concerned with being "politically correct" You can say things and not have your words taken out of cotext and people try to make you out to be a hate filled racist. The op was just stating a fact, nothing more and was not trying to sterotype everyone.

So I keep seeing ash on my seat all the time...today i catch some ********(not racist) *** (not sexist) around my ride ******* (no discrimination towards those who choose to consume certain products).. I was going to lose my cool but left.... If this repeats is using his **** (no prejudice against other parts of the body) to wipe the seat ok thing to do?

better?

Find out what car he drives and throw an ashtray full of butts on the hood.

I didn't notice that he was referring to one particular incident. The "stand your ground" law in place in many states is, I believe, what he was referencing. And, as I understand that law, you are entitled to shoot someone with impunity so long as they are advancing on you or your property.

This is a Canadian forum. You may find that many of us Canadians have a biased attitude to the US love of the gun. You might want to grow a thicker skin or at least keep that in mind so you don't come across as overly defensive.

From my experinece reading US based forums the same question posed by the OP would have had at least one poster within the first five or so saying "shoot the bastard". :p

It's not possible that there's a slight bit of over-reaction here, is there?? Nahhh!!!!

Sorry, I do not mean to come across as thin skinned, The Case "in Florida" was spun by the media from Day one, when the media left out all the facts that in any way supported the shooter, listed the kid as 12 years old and used a school picture from when he was 12. The Media also cut out the portion of the 911 call and made it seam like a racially motovated incident, the shooter never mentioned race or color, the 911 Operator asked for that iformation, then the news cut the question from the brodcast to make it more sensational. The shooter is also of mixed decent but the media spun the case and listed him as white to make it seem more racially motavated.

The post I responded to:

the poster Specifically mentions a shooting in Florida and the Stand your Ground statement that is what the case is all about. They did not referance Texas or other states or shootings.

I will refrain from talking about guns and shooting unless brought up by someone else first, others have opinions and I also have an opinion, Agree or disagree. Just trying to point out the facts and not let the forum or media spin stuff in a direction that ignores them.

Fair enough. And sorry, I didn't mean to suggest you need to refrain from posting your thoughts on an issue. Just trying to provide advice on the relative difference of response you can expect on a Canadian forum than a US one.

What's the big deal about someone smoking around your ride?
Where you parked next to a sidewalk?
The fact that there were ashes on your seat i can understand, maybe he didn't ash there intentionally.

So you said nothing? Now I would think you are maybe slightly responsible if/when it keeps happening. If that was happening to me I would surely say something. No need to be angry, aggressive or anything like that. As someone else posted, he might not even know he is doing it.

Thanks, I do fully understand the differeance in thoughts regarding guns and laws and Forums. Making the transition sometimes is difficult as I am not the "Politically Correct" type of person and as I mentioned earlier it was one of the things I really liked about my vivists to Toronto this year, hearing people say things and seeing that those comments (That were not meant as derogotory or insults) were accepted as meant and people did not twist things. Even gender discussions did not go sideways like they do here in the U.S.

I very much like to hear peoples opinions on subjests like bikes, gender, guns etc. I have already gotten into tangents on other threads and have already refrained from posting about the gun subject unless it is already the topic, as "major" started this shooting portion I just wanted to clarify and express my opinion to his comments concering this particular case.

We all have lines drawn in regards to certain subjects and what we feel is right and wrong in regards to them, but there is always gray area's and that is why some discussions get off target at times.

I value your comments and the posts you make!

Actual racism is considered such a ghetto attitude that anyone using racist language earnestly so completely discredits themselves that the alleged "victim" can't take them seriously. As they say, "It's not what they call you, it's what you answer to."

It's probably a sign that we have less racial inequality when people can rib each other about nationalities or regionalisms the way we do about sports teams. As far as the Chinese comment from the OP, the perpetrator must have been some horking mainland peasant, since no respectable Chinese person would litter on someones motorcycle.

Some people just don't have the ability to think about the consequences of there actions. He probably has no clue that the ash is falling on your seat I bet.
Next time you see it happening, clean the seat infront of him and make it look VERY obvious. Give him a dirty look and ride away. Maybe that will give him the hint and he'll stay away or be more considerate next time.
If not, then your ride is A OK with me!

ya i agree with this and this is something that i always do! lol! i'm a bit of a chicken sometimes so i would just make it very obvious and give the person a dirty look without actually saying anything...
