Any recommendation on tune-up shop?! And what to tune-up specifically..

I live near Don Mills and Steeles, I was wondering if there is a tune-up shop close by that someone has used and would like to recommend it? I'm just looking for an oil change, oil filter change, air filter change, maybe get it balanced? I was wondering what else should i get tuned up as I bought it used and haven't dont anything to it yet only has 1000 kms on it tho but i doubt the previous owner had done anything either.

Any input is greatly appreciated!
 
Just change the oil/filter and check for any loose nuts/bolts. With 1000km you may need to adjust the chain too. Couldn't tell ya where to go though.
 
if you've got a place to work on it, those things are very simple to do on the 250. You could do all of that (unsure what you mean by balancing) in about an hour with simple hand tools. You can get the WIX filters that come with new O rings at Napa auto parts stores (they have them under their own brand name, but you can give them the WIX part number, 24941), takes just under 2 quarts of oil, and the air filter comes out of the side of the airbox by taking out 3 bolts. I usually just clean mine with compressed air, but I might replace it with a K&N in the future.
 
and something else while I'm thinking about it, check that the black side plastic panels aren't rubbing on the tank at all. Mine rubbed the tank and took some of the paint off.
 
yea i've looked how to do an oil change but i dont have a torque wrench to measure how much im supposed to screw things back at, but i am definately going to start working on it myself. I just want to get everything done professionally without worry for the beginning of the season :P oh and for balancing, not sure if you're supposed to get your wheels balanced??
 
take it to rosey toes, 416-241-2523, ted is the best. you get to watch and learn, best price in town. don't go anywhere near cycleworld stupidstore, they will screw it up!

Oooo well im actually John and Leslie, i live on Tanglewood Trail hahaha but wow thats awesome had no idea there was a bike shop on green lane will definately check it out
Was considering rosey toes but just a little far, i have not gotten my bike checked out by a mechanic properly yet so didnt want to risk going too far haha

ahh, you didn't specify wheels. They should have been balanced from the factory. You only need to do that when you change tires.
 
Sorry if this comes off as rude, but if you can't change the oil/filter on a ninja 250, then you have no business even being on a bike. I am not the handiest person in the world, and I found it to be a very straight forward job easily accOmplished with basic tools. Don't worry about the torque wrench, just tighten tthe bolt very tight and you're good to go

There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube and at www.Ninja250forum.com

Just don't want to see you pay well over 100$ for something you can do in 30

As for the other stuff, get RoseyToes to check you out

Like I said before, i know how to change the oil -.- i just recently changed the spark plugs myself, it's not that im incapable of accomplishing these tune ups its that i still need a mechanic to tell me if my bike is in working order . . . and what needs to be changed i'm a noob but not retarded lmao. Since its the first big maintenance operation i would be more comfortable getting everything done professionally.

+1 again for RoseyToes. They are one of the only few places that let you sit there and watch. Don't know if this will bug you, but one of the mechanics there (mind you, I actually like him) has a 'don't fix it if it ain't broken' mind. Unless you specifically ask him, he won't do things like change the air filter unless your bike is showing signs that it needs changing. He'll also explain what to look for (don't change air filter unless your bike is obviously lacking power).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I live A LOT further than you from Rosey Toes, their customer service skills are very good, good enough to make me not mind the long ride (now if I ever have to CAA there that might be a problem).

Yeah i was able to meet Ted, had to get him to ride to my house to cert/safety my bike for ownership transfer, very true/real down to earth kind of guy. My bike wouldnt start at the time and he told me to change the spark plugs (which i did and now its fine) saving me money from towers and mechanics. I guess i should probably go with him, and go with Z1 for emergencies.

DO NOT tighten anything "really tight" when doing an oil change that's the #1 rookie mistake. Every bike is suppost to have an initial inspection at 1000km (or close to it) to make sure nothing is falling apart or off the bike. It shouldn't need anything special.

Yea, even a cheap torque wrench from crappy tire is better than "really tight". If you watch, you can get them on sale all the time.
