I am stuck atm

I am outside, 5 mins from home, and the bike has been sitting here for the last 3 hrs.

It seems like the ignition lock is frozen. I can put the key in fully, and play in it, but it doesn't unlock the steering lock.

What to do ?

Leaving the bike here over night is not the best option..... I would rather take a piss on the lock if that's what it takes lol

Any quick suggestions ?

WD-40 and prayer.

I had the same thing happen to me with a gas filler cap, about 15 years ago and 300 Kms from home, and I finally ended up hammering the screwdriver from the toolkit into it, to get home. Also not the best solution.

*EDIT* OK, not exactly the same as my situation as my lock was 'frozen' as in 'jammed', not as in actually frozen.

of course, if the key has electronics in it, be careful, you may fry it when heating the key...maybe heat lightly and insert into lock multiple times so as not to get it too hot...good luck...

Near YorkU. Car lighter on the lock ??

Why not? You can always just heat it for a couple secs and put it on the lock. It wont burn it esp if its just warm. If it doesn't work then you got a whole other issue on your hands.

either on the lock or touch it to the key...or if there is a house nearby, go knock on the door, ask for an extension cord and hair dryer, heat it up...

I will try to put the key in hot water, and dry and try. Any objections ?

The water may eventually freeze then you'll really have a frozen ignition lock

As a new rider I think I've been in the same situation as you with the ignition lock. Although this may be a "noob" suggestion, try turning your handlebars all the way to the left and try unlocking it.

I found that you cant lock/unlock the bike unless the bars are turned all the way. Live and learn.

Writing these lines from home sweet home =)

A girl, with a souvenir lighter brought from Jamaica, came to my rescue.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions !!

I don't know where I would be today without you guys lolz

What else was frozen:
- signal switch
- horn switch
- high beams switch
- throttle
- rear-brake
- choke lever
- clutch lever

And suspensions could be not there as well.

On my Ninja 250, that sweet spot you are talking about is actually a bit far from left-most position - I have to steer slightly rightwards in order to unlock the thing =)

Get her number and take her out for dinner?!?

Now you see why many chose not to ride right now. Its not just a matter of can we handle these temps but can the bike. Plus the salt on the roads, drivers not being aware we are still out there etc etc.

Safe riding!
