Another guy puts energy drink in his tank

I remember a story a few years ago about a guy that put NOS Energy Drink (mixed it up with NOS Octane Booster) in his GSXR and had lots of problems as a result. Well looks like someone saw his friend pouring fuel from a VENOM Energy Drink bottle (the guy was just using the bottle to hold the fuel) and thought it was ok to pour the drink itself into his tank.

I just finished taking a call from a friend's friend. The guy proceed to tell me that his 08 Ninja 650R is not starting after he filled her up with 6 bottles of VENOM energy drinks and need some advice on getting his bike started. I promptly asked why he called me instead and was politely informed that I knew how to make VENOM energy drink work with the Ninja 650R. I started laughing and told him that I had no idea what he was talking about. A few minutes later we got to the source of the mis-information....LOL.

April 27th, 2011: Bike Night at Quaker Steak and Lube

I was with a few friend and had rode to the meetup low on gasoline. The group left Quaker Steak and Lube at about 8PM and after 10 miles my fuel gauge started blinking. I pulled to the shoulders and took out two bottles of reserved fuel bottles I kept in my backpack. By then the other riders in my group had walked up to me and saw that I was pouring two bottles of VENOM energy drink into my tank. I joked about how the VENOM boosts my 650R's performance and made the engine run smoother. This is of course a joke. I keep reserve fuel in the VENOM bottles because they are made of thick aluminum bottles and looks really nice. So this was the mis-information part.

I promptly told my friend's friend to siphon out the drink mix immediately and put gasoline in his tank. I hope he didn't do much damage to his bike...hehe. Just thought I share the laugh.

Proof that some people still do not question anything they see or hear and just go ahead and do it. Whatever happened to reasoning, and using BRAINS. Oh well, some learn it the hard way.
 
Is it actually even legal to carry fuel in anything other than an approved jerry can? I thought I heard somewhere that it wasn't. I've considered reusing the metal Sea Foam bottles for a small amount of emergency backup fuel. Although I guess the bike will run off SeaFoam anyway so I could just carry a bottle of that.
 
That's just....hilarious. Some people don't understand the principle of combustibles!
I know that energy drinks are horrible for you (i still drink them) but they're not THAT bad as to ignite when met with a spark, lmao.

Camping stoves can use gas...I have one of those aluminum bottles to put it in.
 
on a side note, when he is stranded waiting for help, if he gets thirsty he doesn't have to worry about finding a convenience store.

Pretty sure there are only certain approved containers, not all are 'jerry can' but they have to have a certain marking on them. I think to do with the build up of fumes...

According to subsection 4.1.2.1 of this article, gasoline is a Class 1 fuel because of it's low flash point.
According to subsection 4.2.3.3 of this article, as long as it is less than 1L of Class I fuel, it doesn't need to be in an approved container.

Random fact: Jerrycans were color-coded for their contents.

But will the gas station let you fill it without the appropriate markings? I know I had to get trained on that when I worked at a gas station for a few months but that was like 8 years ago so I don't remember now. I just reminded myself how old I actually am now. :P

Do they even care? (gas attendants). I am sure they wouldn't even bother if they see.

On my trip I am gonna be carrying a 1L bottle for spare. I hope I don't get arrested :rolleyes:

I can see a gas station not allowing you to fill a small bottle with gasoline for safety and insurance purposes, but nothing holds you back from filling your own little bottle at home. Keep in mind though that a plastic water bottle is not a good idea haha. You'd need something very sturdy and can withstand a bit of expansion, as well as being airtight.

Would the consequence of carrying fuel like that go so far as getting arrested? (honest question, no sarcasm).
I can see where a ticket/fine may be issued and the fuel seized. Arrest is a bit much.

Carrying fuel in your backpack through an airport, that's a whole other story. :laughing8:
