Hey my dad has a 1984 honda shadow 500, its got 70000km and he wants to know what kind of oil to put in? I doubt hes down for the most expensve oil but we'll see so any options r helpful. Thanks guys

motul 5100 always works for me in my 1982 sabre v45 :)

If your dad doesn't want to pay a lot of money, he could get Mobil Delvac 1300, or Shell Rotella. These are both HDEO's and are 15W-40's. Excellent additive packages in both and a 4L jug is in the $15-$17 range.

My bike asks for 10w-40, would it be a bad idea to use those 15w-40's you mentioned?

Assuming you're not riding in really cold temperatures (pour point for both of these oils is -30 F) - I think you'd be very happy with either. My bike calls for a 10W-40 too and other than some fairly pricey synthetics, I haven't come across a 10W-40 PCMO or motorcycle specific oil, that stands up as well as the Delvac or Rotella 15W-40's.

I put in whatever Castrol is on sale at the Tire. 10W30, 10W40, it's all the same and the bike won't mind one bit.

Make sure you change the horn on that '84 VT500C because it sounds like a duck, a very sick "Needs water dehydrated" duck. I added two SUV horns in addition to the OEM one.

Hey, Did I buy a used seat off you?
