TD Insurance Spike?! m109r rider

Mine went down, $720ish to 600ish. 2009 Kawasaki versys 650, male 42, full M, full coverage with $2m liability, I live in the sticks west of Barrie. Got some other quotes from TD when I was looking to buy, I can ride a vstrom 1000, Yamaha fz1, Kawasaki z1000, and a bunch of other bikes similar for about the same money, maybe $100 or so more. My car costs more than my bike.

Mine went up 9% with TD. I'll be switching policies to a bike with 2/3s lower displacement, so we'll see if I need to do shopping once I hear the new $.

Long time lurker, first real post, Gtam is great.

In April, it will be a year I've had my m1, also when I turn 25.

Seems like alot of companies only insure people who have either, taken the safety course or have had full M for three years, sometimes both are required.

Also, seems supersport is either uninsurable or, really expensive (1 company quoted me for $13,000 for a '15 zx6r considering I was already 25 and lisenced for a full year, which is two large discount points)

Last year, with statefarm I had a '11 kawasaki ex400r for 1700 total (to which I sold after 6 months, left bike less now)

Anyways got a quote for both a '15 triumph street tripple R and '15 kawasaki 650r for around $3100 liability and fire/theft, given or take $100

Unsure weather I'm happy, or upset compared to my 400. :S

Q: does the safety course still benefit after you've been insured for numerous years, or does it only benefit for a certain time ?

You guys had me worried, but mine only increased 5%. Although my wife also added a bike to the stable late last year, so maybe there is more of a multi-bike discount in play now.

TD MM raised mine 35%. Actually more since i added an extra bike last year and received a 5% discount, so it is probably 40%. Time to shop around.
Just called Duffy and they list my naked Monster as a Super Sport and won't quote. WTH?
Dalton Timmons gave me reasonable rates on my bikes and lower rates on my cars and homes, so I am leaving TD MM. I called TD asking to cancel in hopes of a rate reduction but all they offered was as apology with no reduction. They have have treated me well over the last 5 years but this is ridiculous.

It's worth giving them a call. I just got my TD renewal notification and they increased me from $856 to $1400 on my 2011 DD 750. I called and they gave me some line about how since the weather is warmer the riding season is longer and thus they need more premium, I politely said I thought that was insane and that I wouldn't be renewing. The agent then asked me all the standard questions for obtaining insurance again, which he already knew the answers to, and said "oh, I found a bunch of deductions you qualify for and have got your quote down to a dollar less than last year so you're at $855." So I think this is basically an idiot tax where if you're dumb enough to renew without calling in to ***** about it they'll gladly take your money. A quick phone call saved me close to $600 or the hassle of setting up insurance somewhere else. If they're trying to bend you over give them a quick call, I was literally on the phone all of 5 minutes.

That's basically what State Farm said to CTV the other day. Guy was upset about 80% increase. They said it was a glitch in their system. From the reports of rising rates from State Farm from so many people it seems the "glitch" is pretty big.

I called multiple times and was given the same run around about how their new policies are higher because of more claims and accident expense/other BS. After multiple attempts I ended up cancelling my car as well and going with The Personal for both.

I'm also switching from TDMM after calling multiple times and getting the run around. I even did an online quote which was about the same as my rate last year - they found a way to get out of the online quote. AND the TD guy was all "Bro" and "Man" and "You know what I'm sayin?"

Sound like he was very professional.:confused2:

I'm with TD MM as well with bike, home and two vehicles. My bike rates went up 80%. I called and explained there must be a mistake. They gave me the same "new rates" based on your bike run around. This seems criminal. I will be dropping them next week. This was just the thorn that broke my back. I have had nothing but bad encounters with them since I began using them 5 years ago. For such a large company they do not conduct themselves in any sort of professional manor. I had a claims agent offer me a gym membership to close an open car accident injury claim. I'm no lawyer but that does not seem legal. What a joke! Good riddance.

How legit is this guy? I tried searching for him on the SurNet website and I got 0 results. I even called him and got a much lower quote than I am paying right now. I just can't help but feel skeptical about the whole thing. I would really appreciate it if any of you could assure me that I am not walking into a scam here.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies. After looking into a few facts, I am now convinced that he is legit. I will be moving my insurance over to another provider through Chris as a result of the spike in 2016.

I have given this number to a couple of people and they have been successful with good quotes

Make sure you read reviews from whatever company they give you a quote for and then decide.

Honestly from what I see from the other posters, he sounds pretty legit. He is also in Insurance Specialist section, and he listed on the RIBO website as a broker.

I can only tell you my experience.
called him, gave him some information over email, he responded right away and asked for more info, called him and he seemed to know what he was talking about.

once I agreed to the price he asked me for the vehicles VIN and license #, emailed me some forms and I filled up and scanned and emailed back. Got an email with a temporary insurance slip and then about a week later, i got the original insurance papers from Aviva with the Insurance slips and the regular papers explaining policy coverage, monthly payments and etc.

So I know the paper work is legit as I got it from Aviva and he seemed professional and got back to me right away.

Remember these companies normally have an intro price that goes up after a year, but even if it goes up it will enver be to the price of other companies and if you don't like it you shop again in one year.

Iirc Chris works with Paul (father/son?) and have been around the forum for the few years I have been here. I also personally know a member that was/ is insured with him. And I almost exclusively use the app to access this forum, but I think Surnet is a site sponsor /advertiser. Just my observations.

Does he do car insurance as well?

Paul and Chris are legit. I talked to them about both my bike and car insurance this month while shopping for a new company. Unfortunately for me their quote was higher than what I ended up getting at Allstate. But very professional in all our dealings by email very prompt replies etc.

As for car and Bike I was dealing with Paul for the bike and Chris for the car so perhaps Paul doesn't do auto policies.
