Seeking help in looking for a Sport Tourer

Go to the bike show, sit on everything, if it's not comfortable to you, the specs and suggestions don't matter.

And I second the Hayabusa suggestion. It's a very comfortable bike, great for long distance, it's just got a notoriety that turns people off.

Yes, that is a good thought.

Timing is excellent with the Show on this weekend.

Thanks all.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned a Concours14. It Concours14 puts Sport in front of touring as compared to most (eg. st1300) that puts touring in front of sport.

I've done 1400km South Carolina to London Ontaro in 11.5hr in one day, so they will get the job done.

I don't post much but wanted to second on the Connie. I got a 2013 and the thing is sweet! First trip was to The Deals Gap last June. Try to get a 2010 and newer if you can - they fixed the heat blast from the fairings issue. I really miss riding this right now....

As you've expected, there is quite the range of responses. Everyone likes different things. Since you asked specifically about the larger VFR's, I'll give you some thoughts. Picked up a 2010 VFR1200 last year, coming from a 08 1000RR that is now a track only bike. Of course both the newer and older 800's may also be interesting. The new 800 is pretty much the same as the old 800 with a couple tweaks. As for the 1200

good:
- power, lots of it, V4 is absolutely sublime, not eyeballs in the back of your head acceleration, but picks up speed deceptively quick
- price point, you can get almost brand new bikes for very good prices, the bike never sold well
- enough power for 2 people, still fun at Deal's Gap, great around town, without the SS seating, more of a gentleman's express than a rocketship
- sound cheesy, but the paint finish is unreal

bad:
- transmission does not like to be rushed, sport side of sport touring, but not race bike by any imagination even if some people track them
- stock fueling is complete junk. IMO slip on, 1st+2nd gear derestriction, fuel controller and a custom midpipe (cat removal) is a must (optionally, ECU is flash-able)
- heavy, maneuvers well compared to bikes of similar weight, but there is just no need for it to be so heavy, they could have put lighter parts on it for a "flagship" product. If you just cruise around town, no worries, if you like ripping up a canyon, you'll notice.
- fairings are very difficult to remove, stupid plastic clips and fingers everywhere. Although to be fair the 1000RR is just as dumb.

My budget is up to $10K.

I would neede a bike that is also comfortable for a female passenger.

I had a Vstrom DL1000, dependable but boring. The passenger riding seat was quite good however.

I like the suggestions of a BMW or a multi cylinder Jap bike.

What about the larger VFR's?

That guy has really done his up. I have had the 2008 C14 since about 2 minutes after it was released and it's fast, comfortable and remarkably good on gas for the size.
Saddle bags are huge. Has some techo-crap I could live without - Kipass and TPMS are just not needed, would rather have had cruise...

Sport touring and Adventure touring are different beasties.

Try a Connie: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2014/11/kawasaki-refines-concours-14-abs-for-2015/

Lol. Hi there. My name is apparently "no one" now, but why are you surprised?

Check out the fjr1300. I've been riding one now for two years absolutely love it.

Have you decided which person has told you what bike you want?

I looked it over yesterday and bought it. It may have been taken off line now but was an advertisement for a low mileage 2012 Suzuki GSX 1250FA Sport Tourer, with touring bags and all. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I am very familiar with the GS in-lines so decided to stay with what I am comforitable with

So thanks Mathew and all that contributed....great feedback !
