Benching ZX10R, buying KLX300 for a year's use.

valve clearance inspection \adjustment. Chain and sprockets, fork oil, coolant and break fluid change, air filter, break pads and tires. pads.
It's now the value of a klx but it goes a long way.
I'm now leaning towards an atv.

The valve check may or may not be tricky on that bike. Everything else I would do myself.

Check isn't too bad.

Adjustment:

Tdc, remove cam chain tensioner.
Remove cam caps.
Remove cams and cam gears.
Remove buckets.
Measure shims.
Replace with shims using the previous valve check clearances to spec the proper shims.

Reassemble.
Make sure cams and cam chain are at TDC marks.
Assembly lube on cam journals.
Torque cam caps in specific pattern.
Compress tensioner and Re-install cam chain tensioner.
Turn engine over backwards with a ratchet to make the cct retract against the guide.
Re-check timing, so it didn't jump a tooth.
Re-check clearances, to make sure you didn't botch it.
High temp sealant on valve cover gasket lobes.
Valve cover install.
Reassemble tank and fairings.

Start to make sure it doesn't go clackity-clack boom.

Yeah, thats a little more involved.

Before reinstalling the valve cover, I'd turn the motor over with the rear wheel a few times with the plugs out to double-check the timing.

My old zx11 was easy enough, did it a few times until the clearance remained unchanged.
The zx10 looks like it's going to be someone else's problem.
Any recommendations as who can properly and competently perform this task.

Depends on where you are. Any proper bike shop can do it.

That is the plan. I don't have replacement shims etc.
The rest is just basic maintenance. I'm going to have to learn about abs fluid bleeding.
