Exploring backroads at sunset has become a favourite thing. Went looking for iron bridges last nite.

Went to the Moto-Social even on Sunday in Gtown.
Sadly, looks like only 8 people showed but one was on a 2017 Ural, looked like it had seen many miles and all of them good.
Nice guy and his dog loved the sidecar.

Ural tinkering. It was handling fine with the sidecar suspension adjusted to max, but i would like it to be softer for my lovely passenger. So i changed the length of the struts and lowered the sidecar."Leanout" is now set at 3.5deg from 2.0deg. Huge difference. Very happy.

Is that the bike proper leaning 3.5 away from ("out")the chair?

Also: Do you miss leaning into big sweepers?

Factory setting is 2.0. The lean out is dependent on how highly crowned the roads are. Some people go up to 5.
I don't miss the big sweepers, but Bernadette yells "tight tight tight" and hangs out of the sidecar if i give'r.

Coming up to 4500km. Still fighting a slight pull to the right,so i opened the toolbox and made a couple of adjustments. Used a ratchet strap to pull the front of the sidecar in about 2mm. Test ride and it was a bit better. Used a scissor jack at the rear to push it out about 3mm. More toe-in. Test ride, Holy crap, what a difference! Zero effort at the handlebars at 60/70 kph now.
Handles like a motorcycle with zero trail now. Lol.

There is so much to learn owning a sidecar rig. I thought i knew a lot about chassis tuning, but none of it applies anymore. I've made changes to lean out that helped a little with the pull to the right. But the biggest change came from adjusting the toe in. There are so many variables. Preload, tire pressure have big effects. The biggest variable is one that can't be changed. The crown in the road.

What happens if you get the car way too high (in a mostly straight line)? Does it lay on its side or does it try to go turtle?

Same as a wheelie. Twelve o'clock, tap the brake, back to safety.
Hard right, lift the car too high, i dunno. I'll let you know. It's probably easier to recover than a wheelie because you are still on 2 wheels.

Donuts are the bomb.
ACF50 did a very good job.
Rear wheel spokes took a beating.
Rear tire is done.

Edit: countersteering needs to be unlearned. I instinctively tried to avoid a little groundhog last week by countersteering. Nailed him.
Pushed left.... goes right.
