White Gear...

How hard is it keeping white gear white? Whether it is leather or textile. The reason I ask is because yesterday I was at the Brampton Powersports dropping off my bike for a tune up and while I was there I was having a look at what gear they had. What I noticed is that all the gear that was white was substantially cheaper than any other.

So, is this fluke? or because after a single season of riding with white gear it gets as dirty as chewbaccas arse and then you just get a new cheap white jacket the following season?

Also, I was thinking of buying one of the white textiles to keep me cool on a hot day. So any suggestions on keeping it clean? :D

Cheers

1 season? 1 week riding downtown and my white mesh jacket is brown.

Also, I usually wash that jacket by putting it in a washing machine with liberal amounts of soap. Make sure you remove the armour first. ;)

I have a white leather jacket.
If you're really picky and not the type of person to wash it weekly than don't buy white. I use a leather cleaner on mine about once a month or so but I'm not picky.

I bring my white Joe Rocket jacket in the shower once a month and scrub it down with watered-down laundry soap and a medium hand brush.
You will see that the white will turn darker the more you ride as it picks up dirt, grime, bugs, exhaust fumes, and any other junk that hits you at velocity.

After letting my jacket dry, it actually looks really nice....for a few days.
The back is always white and the front and arms are always darker/dirtier.

It gets dirty. I briefly tried to clean it with a damp cloth which did nothing. I hear the cleaning products for white sneakers work well and I bought some but never tried it. I don't care enough.

Love the white gear... just needs a bit more care that's all. Ordered some leather cleaner and conditioner off ebay for my jacket. My textile jacket I just throw in the wash an it comes out looking new.

I've been wearing white leathers for about 6 years now, I wore the same suit for about 4 years.

If you buy higher end gear, it will last and look good as new for a long time.
