Scala G9 - Volume too low?

Hey all,

Just got a Scala G9 to replace my G4 unit for my birthday, and the device is great so far, except I'm finding the volume to be way too low at times, compared to the G4. I'm using the same G9 headset module I was using with the G4 (bought it when I got my new helmet) and now that I'm actually using a G9 with it, the volume seems to be almost half as loud as the G4 was.

I've got the volume level cranked to the max, and the AGC set to Medium which is the default. I haven't tried changing that setting yet, which will be my next step, but has anyone else switched up and encountered/fixed this issue? The only thing I can find really on Google is that the earpiece placement is crucial, which I already knew and made sure to consider when installing that before -- the positioning hasn't changed, so not sure why it's so much quieter.

I have the same setup and can't say i have any volume issues. The only thing I could think of is the speaker placements, but you, mentioned that.

Yeah, with the speaker placement in mind, my first guess was that maybe the G9 has some sort of volume level limiter in place, but unless the AGC itself does that, doesn't seem to be the case. With the G4, I usually had to have my volume around the 50-75% range as full blast was sometimes way too loud. But now I'm always on full volume and some people sound like they're mumbling even though I know they're not.

The other thing I've noticed is that I'll get random bursts of interference, and when that happens, peoples' voices will sound robotic like a Transformers bot or something -- a few others I ride with have had this problem across their G4s and G9s as well though, so it's not just my unit doing this, but it's noticeably worse on the G9. A few times I haven't been sure if it was actually one of my group talking, or crossover from another radio somewhere.

Have you got the mic positioned correctly so that the auto volume kicks in and increases volume at speed (mic detects wind noise)? Mine is reasonably quiet around town but plenty loud at speed. At all levels it's still very easy to hear though as I spent some time moving the speakers around. Even small movements make big differences.

I'm using the wired mic as opposed to the boom, but it's positioned about as well as I can get it in my helmet. Not sure how much it'd be "recognizing" wind noise where it is, but I wear an Icon Variant currently, and without the chin curtain installed it definitely gets some gusts up the front despite my tall windscreen.

Again, the G4 was plenty loud compared to the G9, with the exact same headset positioning/unit as current -- I just switched the AGC sensitivity to High, so I'll find out shortly if that helps.
