:help: I've been having some issue with my R6 starting occasionally. Of the last 5 times I've attempted to start this bike (1999 YZF R6) 3 have resulted in noise resembling a thud or bang which I am associating with a metal part colliding. When this occurs it seems as though the starter is able to get through maybe a couple revolutions and then come to an abrupt halt (noise happens at this time). Momentarily after this I can give it another shot and hear the starter want to go (similar to a battery not having enough juice) and can hear the relays clicking however there is no movement... or it will simply act like nothing happened and fire up nicely. I don't do anything to intervene or make any adjustments between these occurrences.
I can get through the gears smoothly when it is running so I am not associating this with the tranny. Also the fact that the engine runs nicely (if there was a broken piston/ bent valve it should be distinguishable) leads me to believe the problem lies within the starter. I've removed the stator cover and inspected the starter pinion (or at least section visible without dropping the engine) and other gears for teeth condition and debris however have come up with nothing.
I'd rather not drop the engine without having an idea of what this could be, if you've got any experience with an issue such as this or could use more info please post and I'll do my best to describe/provide description of what's going on and troubleshoot.
Thanks
