Options for getting a bike while in Europe for 4 months?

A last minute job proposition has come up and it looks like I'll be in London from the end of July till the end of November.

I'd love to have a bike while I'm living there. I started off thinking I can rent a bike on the weekend once and a while, but realized this will likely be very expensive - especially with the British Pound.

I'm starting to think buying a bike and then selling it may be the best route. I'm wondering if there's an arrangement that can be done with a dealership where I rent a bike (new or used) for 4 months at a flat rate, and then return it before I leave for home. This would be ideal, since I wouldn't have to worry about trying to sell before leaving.

If anyone has experience with this sort of thing and can recommend the best approach, I'd appreciate it.

I've got only a short while to get my plans together!

get a YZF-R125 if you want something nice that will be easy to sell...or get a beater for under 1000 pounds and sell it for around the same price when you're done
 
Insurance could be a problem. Check before buying a bike. Having a permanent UK address might help.
