ok to raise bike via rear shock linkage?

so i ride a dual sport and last year i took it to ted's and he raised my bike with a car jack because the bike's rear linkage has a flat spot at the bottom (kickstand down). ever since then that's how i've been raising the bike myself for DIY stuff. everything seems to be fine but just wondering if it's common practice. it is helluva quicker then using a rear stand for sure (i never bothered to buy one). only downside is that the bike is still on an angle when raised.

thoughts?

I doubt it's a common practice or preferable to have the bike's weight on a linkage element .... I cannot imagine this being very stable either.

Since it's a dual sport, why not to jack it up from underneath the engine? (it's a DS so no pipes are in your way) ... which is what most people use.

Hold on a tick...

I timed myself using a rear stand and it took me 1.8 seconds. How much quicker is this method you are talking about?
A swingarm stand takes literally no time at all to use...

Confused.
