Need some advice

Hi guys,

I just need some honest advice about my situation. I currently ride a 2010 GSXR600 (I love the bike, although I can’t ride it for more then 30-40 minutes without getting back pain). I’ve tried core exercises already with not much luck. This summer I wanted to make some longer bike trips and generally just ride the bike more. I was originally thinking of getting a different bike, such as a sport touring/street. I don’t really want to get something much slower than the GSXR. I liked the look of the Street Triple and FZ1.

I owe roughly 6-7k on my current bike (I financed through Statefarm). I recently started my own business, and don’t want to perform yet another credit check (and certainly don’t want to spend MORE per month). It seems like trading the bike in is out of the question, not to mention any of the bikes I like are not going to be a straight up trade (AFAIK / Depreciation vs new)

One option would be to install Helibars or LSL Handlebars to make the bike more comfortable. Trading for a street triple is probably a stretch...

Any opinions would be welcome.

Thanks guys,

Chase

Sounds like the cheapest move is the handlebar change, vs trading. I'd start there.

Try a set of Tech Spec tank pads. You would be surprised on what they do for your body. I recently purchased a new bike without them and completely forgot how much of a necessity they have become once you have used them. Personally I wouldn't touch the bars on that bike unless I was doing a complete transformation.

In addition to bar risers, look at rear sets for you foot placement. Sometimes that can shift the angle of your hip/pelvis and conversely help your back too. It's amazing what a small change in foot placement can do for the rest of your posture and comfort.

Id suggest having someone that knows what they're talking about look at your riding position.

Second, assuming that you are riding properly and the bike just doesn't work for you, I'd suggest test riding bikes with a set up you think might work better and see how that goes. Otherwise you may find that you have not solved the problem by modding your bike or buying a new bike. Most people I know, including some experienced riders, have trouble riding a sport bike for more than 20 minutes or so but it's all about poor riding posture, not the bike.

I ride a sport bike and am comfy for hours on end. Bikes I've had in past required me to LOWER the bars to improve the ergos, not raise them. Riding an upright bike bugs me due to wind blast and a cruiser makes my back ache due to slouching on a seat with my feet supporting no weight. My point is, just raising the bars may not solve your problem.

Good luck.

This is the option I have chosen for the past 3 sportbikes I've owned. Heli-bars are not enough. The first a set of LSL bars on my TLS. The TLR was my own work, I drilled the top triple (CAREFULLY) and installed Renthal bars with nice risers. Cost me about $80. Currently I have a Banditmania set for my SV1000S. I'll be going to Philadelphia in June for a weekend if that's an indication of how good they are.

Now is the right time to sell if you want to sell your GSXR.
It's the spring bike crazy and you should probably get allot of interested buyers for that bike.

If you do sell and are in the market for an FZ1 I am selling one that is very new with only 2000km's and flawless condition (also for a very fair price and I'm taking a loss on it but have other bikes on the go and it's all getting very expensive so considering selling).
