Mixing Oil brands

Hey all,

Question, based on what I've read its OK to mix brands of oil assuming that you maintain the type (semi or full synthetic) and weight (eg both are 10w-40).

Would most agree with that? I don't know what brand the oil is in mine right now but want to top it off.
 
It's important to maintain the correct oil level so, topping it off is good until the next change. But, also saying that, if you don't know what you got in the crank, I would do a complete oil change anyways. For something relatively easy to do and minimal cost, why not?
