inline or v twin?

So I am debating on what bike to buy this season, I have had many r1s and some other inlined but never owned a twin. I have ridden my buddies superhawk and obviously a power dip from what i am used to, it was def more comfy.
I have a line on a good deal for an early model RC51 but never ridden one. Will I get bored easily? I will be commuting everyday with it, but not highway, just like hwy 7 to markham type stuff and the usual night ride. No real heavy traffic is what im saying.

Before on my inline though I would sit in alot of traffic and thats why i never went with an rc cuz i heard they get real hot! Now hopefully with unbias, would the RC51 get boring to me( i know rc51 and boring shouldnt go together) but coming from mainly r1's what will I miss or like more?

Thoughts?

Unless it's a really smart deal, you'll probably want to opt for an SP2.

The RC isn't as bad in traffic as everyone ******* about. Some guys just have the fans turn on earlier.

Fun bike. Can't say whether you'll prefer the twin or the inline for just commuting. I'd go for an RC, they hold their value well in the event you change your mind.

it is a super deal but yes I have heard about the sp2 being way better but they also are way more money usually. As for holding there value, they should but they dont seem to sell that fast from what i have seen on kijiji. You have to have that specific buyer.

I never ride any liter inline so I can't compare it. That said, I own couple inline 600s prior owning the vtwin. The last r6 almost make me loss interest in motorcycle. (Not anything to do with the bike, indeed, it's a very good bike. its more to do with my mentality. )

Then I switch to a liter vtwin and I have it for almost 4 years. Still love it. Its not really powerful. It might be the vibration, the sound, the powerband, or whatever that attract me. I still don't know what it is, I just know that I love riding it.

The only thing I miss is the screaming, climbing rpm with equalivent acceleration match with it.

I just sold my 01' RC51 2 weeks ago. Owned it since it had 13K on it and sold it with almost 34K. It was a torque monster. I sold it to buy a brand new CBR1000RR. The CBR is much faster above 5000rpm but the RC51 would probably destroy it off the line and around town. My RC51 also ran cooler than my brothers CBR600RR who i always rode with and the RC also got much better MPG which is surprising given it has pistons the size of my fist!

Will I miss the RC? Definitely. It has some serious character and a sound incomparable to any other bike with the whine of the gear driven cam shaft. The new bike does do everything better though...

Handling wize....how are those RC bikes with that?

They're pigs. You don't get one if you're overly concerned with handling. They needs suspension work to get them to comply... not to mention you're talking about a 10-12 year old bike and the components are likely tired to begin with.

Great brakes, amazing engine, unbeatable character. I had an SP1 for several years but it shared the garage with a GSXR1000 the whole time. With that said, I'd go weeks without touching the gixxer.

Get an inline triple best of both worlds!

Rode a vtr1000 for three years and got an amazing deal on an 08 gsxr 750. Bought it and lost interest in riding. Its too much for street. To wind it out youre well into hta172 category. It always felt like everything i did should be done at double the legal speeds. Booooring. 160 kilometers in first gear!!!

Sold it but kept the vtr. Bought a ktm 640 sm and i love it. Yes slow in higher gears but its an absolute hoot to ride.

Have you considered a sv1000? I ride one. Love it. Was gonna trade on a r1 but declined. Too much for the street as already said. To wind it out.... Well, there aren't roads straight enough for that lol

Ahhh...no it doesn't. Not even stock it doesn't.

what vtwin did you have?

I have a first gen mille. It was a direct revival with the RC and the 996 at that time.

I use it mostly for commuting as well as some fun riding, and mix it with some trackdays. I feel lazy and relax riding it. Its not as stressful for my throttle hand to enter/exit corner compare to i4 imo.

The mille feel heavy but I feel great taking it into corner especially long wide turn. It feel even more stable than the old r6 or gsxr. That said I think it has more to do with the chassis...

I kept two sportbikes. One little screamer to cure the fast-rev high-rpm hp craving, and one heavy torquey v-twin for that lazy relaxing corner exiting chill.

Sorry, 140km/h....didnt realize that i had to be extremely precise to prove a point....in the end 140km/h or 160km/h is a moot point....the fact that to give the bike a bit of juice in ANY gear brings you instantly to HTA172 territory means that you're babying it everywhere....the beauty of the V-twins is that it has usable torque for those quick squirts of power that you can use everyday. Even sport touring oriented I4's have mid range torque that great. High strung sport bikes? Not so much...

The most fun street only bike i've ridden? Sv650...its a perfect combo of power, mid torque for street riding. My KTM on the other hand is a down right hooligan bike, winding it out is just plain fun, and knowing i dont have to stay on the street, that i can hop curbs, climb stairs is just liberating...

My 07 R1 does 159km/h (GPS) in first gear, bone stock :)

2006-2010 750 does between 130kph and 137kph (GPS) in 1st depending on which rev limiter you believe.

Sounds like you really didn't know your 750 or have it for very long? In the City I rarely leave 2nd or 3rd gear. Works well for me.

The power delivery of a litre bike for two lane black top and city driving is favorable over a smaller displacement in line four. A V Twin's power delievery, feel and sound are much different. The only way to determine if you'll like it, is to try it. Simple as that. Each have their pros and cons. Some bikes don't like the heat no matter what the engine config.

If it's going to be a daily commuter appliance, I'd look for comfort first and then lean towards what the secondary purposes will be and let that be your guide. The OP seems to favor the R1 and it's a great looking bike and would continue to do the task as described. But, if the appeal of change is because some something different at price that is difficult to say no, then I say your heart already knows what you want to do.

The RC51 folks can chime in and probably give honest and favorable reviews of their experience. At the end of the day, it's really going to be up to you. Will yo be sitting on it missing your R1 as you ride along something else. Only you can decide.

Good luck.

Cheers.
