Hydraulic Valve Trains

Desmo is in its twilight years, Ducati is slowly converting to modern tech -- all but it's race type bikes are changing over.

Wonder how long that will hold out?

Agree with the non-race bikes, as modern mettalurgy has gotten good enough to produce valvetrains that are capable of handling high revs for the street and Ducati is trying to capture more riders downmarket with lower maintenance costs. I don't see myself letting go of my current desmo-non-race-bikes anytime soon, as they are literally the last of their line-up.

For the purists, there will always be a SBK-powered version of the streetbikes on their last model year of their run, like the Multistrada RS and the Diavel RS, and those will always have a desmo-powered race engine.

As for racing, the power these bikes are making in MotoGP and WSBK is still head and shoulders above conventional springs and prototype pneumatics. If I had a penny for every single time I heard a race announcer say, "... the power of the Jieu-kahtee...", I'd be able to afford a garage-full of Jieu-kahtees...

Will this last moving forward? That's anyone's guess. But I'd say this won't change at least until they start losing ground in straight-line speed and not finishing on podiums in every single race... which doesn't look to be anytime soon.

Just MHO.
