How to choose between different model years of Kawasaki 600 SS

So, this coming year I'm planning on investing in a 600 cc SS. I sold my 250 this past year and my heart is set on a Kawasaki ninja (ZX-6R or 636). That said, I've been looking at the various years out there and have been wondering what others suggest for comparing what each year has to offer as far as pros and cons.

While I already am very much aware, '09 and newer are the best years of the Kawi's but I can't afford them since I'm a student. So, I'd like to hear some input regarding the years between 2003 and 2008.

My problem comes when I look at the comparative specs across the years and see the older years are offering things like greater power (e.g.: the 636s in 05) while the newer years offer other perks (e.g.: the 2008 having a slipper clutch).

Any input is greatly appreciated,

Brandon

Either get the 05-06 636, or the 09+ ZX6r. They can all be equipped with a slipper clutch if you really want it, but unless you're on the track its probably pointless. Whereas the lower end torque is much more ideal for street riding...and they look the meanest.

first off, don't call it an investement. Secondly, the 636 happened in 03. Thirdly, the slipper clutch happened in 05.

I had an 01, and 04 and an 06. Street rode the 01, street rode then raced the 04, raced the 06.

All I can say is the 05/06 was superior in every way.

05-06 636 does come with the slipper clutch.
insurance is slightly higher if you go with Statefarm because it's a 636cc and not a 599cc. Other than that I think they're very nice bikes. quick as ***** too.
