How skyscrapers made Ducati’s Desmosedici fly

Interesting. I was curious why the tail of their GP bikes was so large.
 
I remember the Tularis from Cycle World magazine back in the day. Huge 800cc snowmobile two-stroke making 180 odd hp with mega rocketship exhaust:

It's been known for a while that Ducati (and likely Aprilia and others) are running mass dampers, with little suggestion of banning them the way F1 did. Helping stability without affecting turbulence seems to be the goal these days, so that's unlikely to change...
