How big, er, fast is yours?

Oh yes, a lap time thread!

At SMP today, Long Track, first time there with the ZX-6R, clicked off a 1:57.8 and a bunch under 2:00. Pretty happy with that! D211GP-A's FTW! Very happy with those tires (in a Med+ compound).

Still learning that bike and getting it set up for me. I need stiffer springs up front. I was pushing the zip tie right to the bottom of the fork, now that I'm leaning how to really use the stupid brakes on that thing. Plus some of the bumps through 6 are really nasty now.

SMP...
Shaved 21 seconds off my lap time from the last time I was there 2 years ago. New bike REALLY helps. (not to mention a year and a bit of track days). Riding slow group, clocked a 2:09, using Bridgestone Battlax S-20 street tires.
GPS says top speed was 232 km/h on back straight.
Bottomed out the front forks too. Too fat for my own good...

No clue how fast I was going. Wish I got a transponder but I "felt" improvement as the day went on.

When they made it an open session it was very humbling. Here I thought I was "winning"the track day and boom 3 guys past me like nothing. Lol

Well done

In my 3rd year my best ever was a 1 55 with most laps 1 58 to 2 00.

49 years old on a stock 2005 R6.

Almost eveyone is faster than me so I quit trying to compare myself to others and just try to better my times.

And the fact that you are faster than me off the mark proves my strategy is the best one for me.

4B and 6A asphalt the same poor condition?

That was my first time there on the Ninja, not my first time on Long Track. I've done it many times. Managed a 1:59.9 on my SV650, so clearly I have some more corner speed to learn on the Ninja.

Yes, 4B and 6A are still bad. 6A seems worse than ever, actually. 7 is repaved which is nice, except there is a patch at the exit that has a nasty drop off. Had to adjust my line to avoid it, but with the repave the ripple bumps are gone from the wide line so it was good to run it slightly wide. Turn 1 is really nice now, quite fast with the new asphalt.

No idea but I was behind a white bike with a ghostbusters sticker that was moving pretty good. He was the perfect rabbit to chase down and get me more comfortable on the bike. He pulled off before I got to try and line up a pass which would have made me push harder but could have been some fun dicing.

6a has a smooth line, it's just tricky to find and for 7 you have to aim for the curbing on the outside. There is a spot where the transition is smooth and the inside of that corner is not it lol.

That would by Signor smergy.

Yep. Randy and I were dicing it up a bit at the end of the day. At that time of day I think I was a second or two quicker. I'd guess you were running comfortably around the same pace as me, 1:58ish.

I think I might have found those lines once or twice. Old habits are hard to break. I need to live closer to Shannonville. haha

Ahhh there we go, got a name to a bike.

I was loosing what seemed like a full second without the QS. I was just hitting 5th on the straight sometimes, I should have no problems getting to 5th and holding it there for a second or two but the on off throttle was really upsetting the chassis and making for some big arse wheelies. Maybe with 150hp it's not an issue but with 180 (guessing but not far off) it sure doesn't like it.

Yeah, now that I have a bike with a QS I love it. Big arse wheelies are fun too. I was pulling some coming out of the hairpin too. It's nice to have a bike that can do it! haha...

that zx-6r is a quick machine. A quick rider helps too :)

A great day for working some of the bugs out of the CBR. first year as a track only bike and first time since they fixed the pavement, hard to break old habits, especially into 1. 6A was a pretty violent corner and the hair pin is much nicer. Had major issues with headshake (as Dave can attest to) on the fabi straight. It still uses the stock steering damper, with my full weight (220 lbs) and a full tank of gas, it still shook mid into 5th gear. Need to get that sorted. Great day all around though

Maybe you need to put the headlights and the heavy lock cylinder back in. LOL

Seriously though, I wonder if maybe your forks are slightly misaligned in the triple clamps. Did you follow the proper procedure for tightening the clamps? There should be a certain order in the manual (probably tighten the lower first) to make sure everything is straight.

Ya I saw some pretty good wobbles coming from your bike. Oem dampers are junk and it's a great investment. What bike is it that your riding?

08 1000RR, yeah, might need to look at that. Was never an issue in the past, but the front end is much ligher now. Play around with the geometry a little, but definitely can't have that happening at those speeds.

You can't "shave off" 21 seconds (!!!). "Lopped off" more like it.

Shows you how abysmally slow I was at that day (think it was my third track day ever)...
And the bike makes a HUGE difference. Soooo much more pick-up and better suspension.

Still don't compare to pretty much anyone who's participated in this thread though - hope to pick up a bunch after the Racer5 Stage 4 course.

Everyone has to start somewhere and as long as you didn't cause one or crash yourself while picking up some speed count it as a success.

2:09 is pretty good for your 2nd time ever at this track

That was right at the maximum of my skill / comfort level to reach that, trying to stick with some faster guys.
GPS says my average was 2:13-15.
