Honda 2014 NC750X Tank storage door wont open

Any NC750X owners out there had the storage tank compartment door ( I've heard it called the "notank" door) stop working? My key turns to open the gas compartment door (under the rear seat) with out any issues, when I turn the key the other way to open the notank, the key turns with very little resistance. Feels like the cable has let go.
Anyone experienced similar?
 
The issue I've had was with only half the seat popping, had to push it back down and try again.

Is it popping and then gravity makes it catch or is it not popping at all?

If you get a finger under and lift while unlocking it, will it come?
 
Sounds like the system that is used in the Goldwing fairing pocket. Cable comes off. Mine did that once. I was able to remove an adjacent trim piece, loosen a fairing panel and trip the latch with a very long screwdriver.
