Highway No 1

I just got back from a 10 day ride from Seattle to Santa Monica on the PCH. There is some truly spectacular scenery to be found along this route and some great riding. A few side loops inland were well worth it as well. This is truly a bucket list kinda ride, I wish I could have just made a U-turn at LA and headed back up.

The two highlite roads were Highway No 1 where it begins, coming off the 101 at Leggett and heading toward Fort Bragg. 14 miles of twisty fun. The 23 dropping into Malibu offers jaw dropping scenery on a mountain blacktop with endless turns and hairpins.

I ride an R1200R at home but picked up an RT in Seattle for this trip.
I've included a couple of youtube links which I posted from my helmet cam footage if ayone's interested.
I would recommend this to anybody who hasn't done it yet... You just can't go wrong with this trip.

cheers,

Amazing roads and scenery....Is the portion of highway that is called Big Sur also part of the Pacific Coast Highway? If so did you travel there and get any video from that section?

thanks

Big Sur is on the PCH between Carmel and Cambria.

When up that way you should have taken the Lost Coast, it runs along the coast where it is too rough for it to be either Highway 1 or the 101. Almost deserted and you end up riding through ancient redwood forests. I am leaving on Sunday for a week of riding up that way.

I did the lost coast. It was awesome. I posted a little vid of the redwoods at the end Called "redwoods!"Fun ride

I'm jealous. Go home. I don't want to hear any more.

Looking back, I wish I had the chance to do the good parts of PCH. I rode from Santa Barbara to Cambria but had to take a detour since there was a rockslide. At least I got to ride about 10 km of the "good" parts after Cambria

Well as of today I have officially ridden the Highway 1 from the top of California to the bottom. Amazing road, so many different experiences - fog, twisties, sweepers, switchbacks, straight out stretches with views that were incredible.

Only road I loved more, but for different reasons, was the Lost Coast (Mattole Road). Holy Crap!

We drove from sf to santa cruz on the 1..amazing...would have gone all the way back to huntington beach but it got dark by then.. Have u been around the Malibu area i went from santa monica up to Malibu on the 1 and some back road to get back to the 101 also another great road

Yes I have been on the PCH near Malibu. When I say I have done the entire highway I mean from Dana Point where it begins in the south, to Leggat where it ends in the north. Oh yeah, apart from about 20 miles I drove a few years ago, all of it has been on a motorcycle :)

Last year I did the PCH from San Fran to LA. There are some really beautiful parts of that highway. I loved it! One day I would like to go back to San Fran and ride north up to Vancouver. I hear the scenery is even more beautiful when you head north.

I found oregon in particular really beautiful.

I did PCH years ago in a rented car with less horsepower than my current bike (..sigh..). Even that was a great trip. Its been on my bucket list ever since, you beat me to it! Someday...
