Just wondering what the 117 is like to ride from Rouyn-Noranda, QC down to Ottawa. Anyone ridden this route?

Yes and it's very nice - just remember to hydrate. There is an excellent coffee shop in Rouyn -Noranda- A. L. Van HOute
cute baristas

on the main drag and I stayed at a hotel just on the eastern edge.

Prices were uniformly high.

Leaving in the early morning - because of the way the road curves you end up riding into the sun all day but its pretty in places.

There is a lovely newly paved twisty on the way up through Quebec - see if I can chase the name.

Here
If you are going as far up as 117 there is a freshly perfectly paved road - 90 miles or so into Rouyn Noranda - it parallels 101.

391 - one detour with a bit of gravel then bliss.
I would guess the gravel section is paved now.

Loads of bugs ......enjoyed the ride. You could always take a side trip up The James Bay road ....say hi to the Caribou. :D

My pleasure - been up there twice and enjoyed it both times and want more.
When are you going?

I slabbed up to North Bay and then found some decent alternatives.
If you have an iPhone - the new Forever Map app will be useful as there is not always cell coverage. .99¢ and you get the entire world offline with routing....

I'll be back from Spain the week of June 20th and since that is summer solstice the nicest time to go up that way.
This was like 11 pm a big further north

Might tag along and see my daughter in Ottawa if you are game.

Trails as in hiking??

Here's the 391 into RN

Take 63 out of North bay pick up Quebec 101 to 391 by way of the lovely Quebec 101

626 KM from Mississauga to RN - about half slab and with the long daylight - not a bad ride.

We pushed on to Matagami for a very long day another 300 km - 900+ for the day

Then Radisson up The James Bay Road adds another 600 and you can (and I did ) see caribou running along the road in the bush beside me....that was spooky -
