Fuel tank reserve

Forgive my posting this question, no doubt it's been posted before and I tried searching for it. Also posted this onto general discussion but this section would have been more appropriate.

Riding a 09 Yamaha V-Star 950cc touring.
Was advised that when the low fuel warning light comes on, I have approx 10Km to 30Km to refill.
Is this accurate / can I get a better idea as a 10 to 30km range is quite large and don't want to experience that side of the road stranded feel.

Look up the specs of your bike. It will list the size of the reserve tank. Use that number and your average fuel economy to figure out an approx. range. Aim low not high.
