Forgot to register from M1 to M2

My coworker got his M1 this year August 18 and passed his Motorcycle Course at Sheridan the week after. He totally forgot to go to MTO to have his M2 registered after the 60 days grace period. Obviously his m1 is now expired and hes not sure if he has to start all over again to get his m2.

Does this mean he just flushed 500$ down the drain? Has this happened to anyone here? Any input would be appreciated. thanks

Well I wouldn't say "flushed" but if he wants his M2 for the spring he could just go pay the $15 for his M1 in march so he's eligible for his M2 when the season starts.

Calling MTO and asking what to do would probably be your best bet. (Or your co-worker)

It's okay.
I had my M1 expire one (1) day before I noticed it, and went to a center with roadtests. I thought I was SOL, but thankfully, they still took the 'package' that the school gives you (sealed envelope) and processed it.

Not sure if it's a policy or not, but there is still hope. YMMV. (got my new license just this week)

just dont let your M2 expire like i did last time...ugh... that sucked...back to M1 i went.

The upgrade paperwork is good for 6 months. Tell him to go re write his m1 and they can process the paperwork immediately after that

This happened to a buddy of mine also. All he did was go to the Mto and write his M1 again and got the envelope processed. The best thing to do at this point is go in with the envelope and ask if they can process without a rewrite or just do the m1 written test. Usually takes 15 mins for the M1 anyways.

thanks for all the reply fellas.

my buddy went in the morning and got his M2 without rewritting the m1. I guess as long as they get the sealed envelope, they acknowledge you passed your m2.

You have six months to get the M2 from the time you complete the test. Whether or not you have a valid M1 at the time you upgrade is irrelevant, only that it was valid at the time you were tested. There is no logical reason to re-write an M1 if you already have that envelope in hand, and the six months isn't up.
