Easy to download the maps and it routes even when completely offline.

I just did all our stays in Europe - straight forward and can route between them even if offline.

Bout time a decent offline solution - especially places like Pennsylvania where cell coverage is iffy on the better riding areas.

Motion-x GPS is one that I've been using for years. Another good option.
 
Yes thats my go to - MotionX Drive but have you had issues downloading maps?

Also neither program will work without a data connection while Forever Map does including allowing routing.
MotionX only stores a small map area and you don't really have any control over it. It's designed to work with a data plan.
Can be expensive

I don't download any maps on MotionX unless I have wifi and I usually travel with a GPS to tell me what road I'm on and a paper map I use to "navigate" (I tend to just go in a general direction). The MotionX app helps me track my rides during a trip but I don't use it to plan a route unless I'm truly stuck.

The Forever Map sounds interesting, I'll have to have a look.
 
Looks interesting, I have been looking into something to use while I travel the US. I use Motion X now but as stated data can be expensive.
 
Yeah - I think ForeverMap2 is a good upgrade but there is no voice on it.

I wish MotionXDrive would download a larger region or allow specified downloads. It's great where Rogers covers.
 
Just so I understand... If I download the app over wifi and fire it up (on wifi) thus downloading all the world maps (over wifi), in the future I'll never be downloading any maps over cellular. Correct?
 
Strange. When I search for this on the Android store I get "GPS Navigation & Maps + offline". Then in the description it says "GPS Navigation 2 now available for Android". Then in the What's New section it says "ForeverMap 2 turns.... blah blah". That's 3 different names for the same product.

Yes tho it will take space and The details vary France is busted into smaller sections while Spain is single Map so France likely more detail
We found offline the street details were missing in a small suburb tho the street was there just not labelled
I suspect that is an open source issue and why there are specific city maps

Rogers has a Europe plan for $100 for thirty days including decent data
Wish I'd known that would have saved some looping yesterday
Big iron gaTes with barely enough room for one vehicle did not register as an exit

We got upgraded to a tall Nissan something diesel SUV
Lovely touring machine

MotionX oGps drive works fine tho they say only North America
The maps download worked perfectly and good for n foot as well including athe voice nav
The detail is very good
I'll bet motions oGps. Is the ticket as well

Forever map saved our butts today
Stupid Rogers roaming package timed out. Total rip off that was
Once Aircraft mode is off. And cellular data off
Fm will track and route and even in this small town in France

No voice nav but hey better than being blind

Got a cheap data plan from orange but won't tether
There is another package that will and there are some work around

20euro setup and 500mb
Renew is 10 euro for 500

Versus Rogers $100 for 100mb which they say is fine for heavy browsing and pics
Horsepucky it is
$50 for 40mb

Once you buy the startup sim there are optional packages and recharges are remote

Wow those prices are insane. Pretty sure I was paying less than that in Poland on prepaid. I pay $30 for 6GB here and I thought that was a rip off since I was paying $15 for 5GB before.
 
I bought this yesterday for Android and so far I'm very impressed. As noted above, it's called "GPS Navigation & Maps + offline" in the Android store.

Free/cheap GPS apps on Android have really sucked up to this point, but this one feels a lot like Google Maps, which is a good thing. I wish it had a "north up" setting and the ability to add a waypoint or two, but this is by far the best proper offline Android option I've tried
 
I noticed the new googlemap app for iPhone now has turn by turn voice which surprised the heck out me today.

GoogleMap is better but when you lose the signal fuggedaboudit.

I just store the frequent destinations locally and our major destinations in Europe and know I won't get stuck.
Not perfect but ForeverMap2 certainly a good thing to have on the road.
 
From your description it sounds like the iOS version of Forever Maps doesn't have voice prompts at all? The android version has simple prompts ( "in 200 meters, turn left" ), but not text-to-speech for street names.
 
No voice nav on Forever Maps....but searchable, routeable offline of the world....hey I'm not complaining. You do have to switch countries for the search to work.

With a data connection - MotionX GPSDrive is far and away my choice.
 
Downloaded this thing yesterday during a stop over in Vancouver on my way up to Mayo, Yukon. Couldn't see anything on the map unless I zoomed way out and then got no detail. Even if it somehow wasn't using my data connection, the offline map seems to just be a 600mb picture of Canada. No roads or anything so I don't know ow how the file is so large. This was while I had a good wifi, data, and GPS signal. I got the Android version on my Note2 but it doesn't seem to work at all. At least it was only $1. Guess I'll be grabbing some paper maps in Whitehorse today before I head up to Mayo.
 
Used Google Maps in Navigation mode all the way from Whitehorse to Mayo without a data connection and it worked great even though I hadn't downloaded the whole route in offline mode. Not sure why it worked (had no coverage as soon as I left Whitehorse). I've now managed to download almost the whole route in 6 offline maps but if it were any longer I wouldn't be able to. I tried to expand my coverage a little more but got a message saying I've already got the maximum offline maps downloaded. Guess 6 is the limit. Lame. Too bad Forever Maps didn't work at all for me. Maybe I'll contact their support and try to get it going.
 
Been working fine for us when Apple Map and GoogleMap both croaked going to and from Andorra with the crazy steep valley's.

You MUST change countries to get search and tracking results.
It is open source so possible the source is sketchy up there.

I thought of this but I couldn't get it working in Vancouver, either.
