Exhaust Coating

I just picked up a set of original large can Allspeeds for my RZ. The metal work is great, no dings or dents but the coating is in a bad way.

I'm looking for recommendations for a coater. I'm in the east end if that makes a difference.

Either ceramic or I might consider some high heat silicone based powder as the header temp will only be around 650 F. The guys on the UK 2 stroke boards have had some really good results with it but I'm not sure if anyone in Ontario has had any experience with it.

The black version of Allspeeds originally came in 2 finishes - gloss or satin - so either will work.

Thanks in advance

How far east do you want to go :-)

I have not personally used them for ceramic, but a co-worker had his Sportster pipes done by FlashFire Coatings in Courtice. He has a Night Train edition that's completely blacked out. He had them done Satin Black and they did look good.

The other guys that have done powder for me is BrightSide in Scarborough. I know they also do ceramic but I have not personally seen any of their work. Maybe someone else can jump in here.

I know you can get High Heat silicone powder that's supposed to be good up to ~1200F but have not seen anyone in the GTA offering it.

I'm just curious though. I read a thread on this forum about a guy that had a bit of a ceramic coating disaster where it chipped/flaked off. Is it more susceptible to stone chips and wear and tear, or was it just a bad job?

bad job for sure.

Just thinking about this some more. Black Chrome would be a pretty kick *** finish on those pipes, I just don't think they would be happy about dipping them in the tank with all that 2 stroke guck inside :)

High temp powder coatings are a waste of time for performance exhaust applications. These materials are designed for LIMITED high temp use in general industrial applications. I.E., powdered BBQ paint....... Do it in Ceramic and then you won't have to worry about it.......
