Ducati is still Italian owned.

The Audi AG interim financial report for 2012 reveals some interesting details about the purchase of Ducati. Apparently Ducati was purchased by Audi's Lamborghini subsidiary which keeps it under Italian ownership (if only symbolic) and gives Lamborghini an advantage in fleet wide emissions. The purchase price was a much lower $980 million than what was originally reported. I would say the purchase looks like a good strategic move by the Germans.

Very sneaky those Germans....

It's well known that this results in Ducati being part of the VW group, but it's interesting that they're using it to offset Lamborghini's CO2 emissions.

Mandatory CO2 emission limits are going to have some interesting side effects. AstonMartin now sells the Cygnet ... a re-decorated Toyota (Scion) iQ minicar. The Renault group is apparently considering giving away (!) a free electric minicar to purchasers of certain luxury models. And now, Ducati bikes will offset Lamborghini supercars. Ducati probably has a lot higher production volume, which should help.
