Ducati Formula 73

Lot of money for not a lot of bike. Pretty basic Scrambler underneath the new fairing. Didn't even use the 1100 platform.

Low effort on their part.

They said they were honoring the 1973 750 Supersport:

but then came out with this:

Something definitely got lost in translation...

They did it so much better back in 2006 - even adorned it with some Swedish gold jewelry to justify the price tag:

It's not the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and I can see the familial lineage.

With it's less severe riding position it's certainly more accessible to the people with the cash who might give a crap about its link to history, that being old guys with bad knees/back/shoulders/etc./etc./etc. or just people who just like it.

The original is iconic, but the riding position is torture, the mid 2k version is kind of bulbous and looks like it's trying too hard. The new one looks like they put effort into the design and tried to capture the visual theme of the original while expressing it on a modern platform. I'm a bit surprised that they didn't use a top of the line platform for it though.

Bafflingly low effort.

The Paul Smart special was apparently all but unrideable, at least for anything beyond a 10-minute contort to the closest Buckys.

MV and Triumph have done far better modern twists on the torpedo-faired era with the Superveloce and Speed Triple RR respectively. This one is a poorly-proportioned body kit on a Scrambler. The additions are fighting with the base silhouette, and it ends up looking awkward and ungainly, no matter how hard they try to squish certain shapes.

When the company policy went from this.

To selling designer merch.
I`ve still got the issue of Cycle. Aaaah,..what the Hell, at least it`s an Italian fly. :) I`m glad I got to follow writers like Neilson, Schilling, Thomas, Jennings, Egan, Cameron, even Bob Greene and so many more way back then. Anyone else remember how good those guys were? That fuel level stripe on the Formula 73 is just tacky, like air scoops that don`t scoop.
