Dealership costs

Hi all,

Just wanted some of your opinions on this situation;

I will be financing a new Honda CBR250r after the summer, and have been doing some research as to what costs are involved.

The dealership in town is charging $500 for shipping/setup, but I've been hearing that Japanese bikes should not be charged for shipping?

I am a little confused on this matter, being relatively new to dealerships, and am still not sure why I am paying for shipping when the bikes are IN the shop.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I'm aware you can negotiate at dealerships. I guess I'm just looking for a little insight from those who have done some negotiating, or those who have recently financed a CBR250 so we can compare some numbers.

Most new bike dealers will charge you freight and pdi. While this is negotiable, its more important to negotiate the total price out the door. For instance a dealer could say no freight but charge you full msrp or discount the msrp and charge the freight, same difference.

off topic a little bit but why finance a 250?

If the bike is a hot seller good luck trying to getting a better price. they'll just wait until someone else comes in and willing to pay full price.

+1 This is generally not a good idea.

Honda has a 1.9% financing deal going on for the CBR250. So it's not a bad idea for this bike....

To the OP...
Freight and PDI are two "additional costs" most dealers add onto new bikes. It's pretty standard within the automotive industry too. Just ask for "on the road" prices and see what'd suits your budget. I remember when I was researching, most dealers were charging an additional $200 admin fee if I wanted to get the 1.9% financing which kinda made it a weak deal.

Which dealers have you been to so far? I see you are in Brampton...
when I went to Brampton Powersports, they were very standoffish on the price and not willing to negotiate at all. The best price I got for the CBR250 was from Burlington Cycle and that was without even negotiating. There price was lower than any negotiated Honda dealership price! So I would tell you to give them a shout.

If your want more advice or tips just ask. Since I recently went through this process I have some decent pointers to share.
